Is this the $2.31 solution all of our loose 3.5mm jack woes?

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with my loose headphone jack. So I started looking into bluetooth headphones but they're all just a little too dorky for me. (I like earbuds but don't wanna pay $100.) Then I started looking into a bluetooth adapter for my current earbuds - About $60. Then I saw this for $2.31. In the reviews, there are complaints about it not working with other branded phones, but it's made by Motorola.

Any thoughts?

The droid is not listed as a compatible phone but for a few bucks it might be worth a shot.

i don't believe this will work for you. the droid isn't set up for audio through usb. my suggestions is to get a droid replacement. it's frustrating, but when you get a good one, it'll be worth the hassle.

Damn. I thought it might worth a shot to ask. Oh well. Thanks for the response! But I refuse to exchange my Droid because of this. Of all the other problems people complain about with their phones, I don't have any except for this and I'd rather not press my luck. At this point, I'm planning on picking up one these next month:

On the contrary the Droid can pass audio through USB. I have an ipod setup in my car and plugged the Droid into it at one point. Not only did I get music but I was even able to control it through the deck albeit without any meaningful track names; and it played "Left turn ahead" over and over before getting to any music.

If that adapter broke down into a charger (USB) port and a 3.5mm headphone jack I'd buy it in a heartbeat to use with the multimedia dock.

or you can do what i did (and according to some other thread), slip a piece of thin plastic or paper into the space between the headphone jack and the phone. you will have to size our this little piece of paper pf course. this fixed the loose headphone jack issue for me. works perfect now.

Better audio quality via USB as well since the audio jack is analogue. You just have to "mount" the SD card every time unless you have it set to automatically mount when connected to USB...which I do anyway.

That's interesting, actually.

I mean, the fix can be cheaper than $2.31 if you want. You could buy a plain old 3.5mm assembly from some distributor (probably not RatShack because they've fallen from their throne) and solder it into the phone. The problem with the "3.5mm jack" is that it isn't a jack at all; it's three contacts lined up to touch the 3.5mm plug on your headphones when you plug them in. It's the cheapest thing they could have ever done and I've bought $7 iPod Shuffle clones from China that had real headphone jacks.

What you're describing is providing your head unit access to your music files on your SD card via usb, then the head unit plays the files. All the USB connection does is allow access to the music files...

What you can't do is play track using an app on the Droid and output the sound via USB...

Digital sound isn't necessarily better. Reel to Reel tapes in the 30's and 40's had much better sound quality than cds do today, and cd's are better than mp3's. Digitizing music has made it sound worse, but distributing it more convenient.

..steps down off soapbox

Edit: all that being said, I'm really sad this won't work to listen to music. I've returned 2 droids for this problem. The USB port seems to be much better than the headphone jack.
