Finally found headphones that control volume

I converted over from iphone land about 2 mos ago. One of the hardest parts in this conversion was accepting that there are very few alternatives to the stock headphones that are capable of full remote function--including volume control. In regard to the included headphones, I don't like the in-ear style ear bud and no matter what I tried I could not fix the annoying noise the cord made each time I took a step. Eventually, after multiple searches I found a pair of earbuds and an app that allowed me to do everything I needed with the excepton of volume. Then, last week, by accident I viewed a guy on YouTube demonstrating a set of ear bud headphones for the Galaxy S3 that allowed the "song forward" and "song backward" buttons to be used for volume. The middle button controls the movement through songs and the mic (with the help of a free app of your choice). I clilcked on the link in the video and purchased the headphones off Amazon for $4 with no shipping charge. They arrived in about a week and totally WORK. The headphones are made for an HTC phone and for some reason the wiring allows the controls to work the volume on a Galaxy S3. Here is the name of the headphones: OEM HTC Black Wired Stereo Headset Headphone Earphone Earbud with Remote Controller,Mic, 36H00880-04M.
Now if someone could tell me how to use the headphones to send and receive text messages I would be a happy camper!

Well it all depends what do you want your headphones to do? For me its sound good first, everything else is negotiable. Shure makes a volume control, that will work with any head phones, though that's all it does. If you're happy with those ear phones DONT listen to good ones or you'll ruin it for yourself.

Hey Rmalone just wanted to ask which headphones you would suggest that have both superior sound and also the control functionality. Would the Shure headphones be the ones you suggest or do you know another brand?

P.S.: I've already tried the Klipsch S4A's but I didnt care too much for them and I'm also looking for a full three button remote, I also have an Epic 4G Touch

i have a set of those HTC headphones... the sound is bad!

the headphones that come with my GS3 sounds good. much better than the htc.

but i use my motorola headphones (that i purchased for $60) because it sounds better and the cable is longer (for when i go to the gym). it does not have volume control, but i can live with that for the sound and wire length.

I had a pair of Sennheiser MM50 that I was very happy with; they lasted for almost 2 years and I used them with my Nexus One phone. Volume, pause/play, forward... everything worked.

I got my S3 and I thought the headphones were fairly poor quality; either way they broke after about a month of use. I then got a pair of Sannheiser MM70i (basically the newer version of what I had before) and the pause/play button works but the volume buttons do NOT. :(

I did see a pair of Philips headphones that were specifically made for Android phones, so I guess I'll get those when these break.

Tips on affordable & good sounding earphones with working three button function:
Sabotage Royale at Degauss Labs
Nocs - High End Headphones - Airplay Speakers - NS200 Aluminum (Android)
Sennheiser MM 70s - Stereo headset for Smart Phones - Integrated volume control, Call control, in Ear acoustic design

My most recent purchase is a pair of dual armature earphones from Degauss:
Dual Driver at Degauss Labs
Very well balanced and great sounding.

I'm using their app to control the button functions:

Every one of those headphones is inner-ear. I CAN'T STAND inner-ear. I need to hear the world around me when I'm walking through the city, and I don't like being in the cone of silence. If only there was a good pair of ear buds...
