Yes, I dont really care about the 2.1 anymore!
the new 4g evo its coming in summer, im really tired of waitin and waiting for the 2.1 to come out and i dont really see a clear date.
dont get me wrong, i like the hero but its really frustrating not to b able to watch youtube videos. That was the main reason why I bought this phone.
Anyways good luck with 2.1

Yep. Then when 2.5 comes out a month after the Evo and then 3.0 at the end of the year while you are still stuck on 2.1 because Sprint has their collective thumb up their butt, I am sure you ill just love that right?

I'm with you. I would love to have to 2.1 on my Hero, but if the the EVO comes out first my Hero will become a paperweight.:D

Since when did this forum turn into a rant fest?

Just wait until 2.1 officially drops  There will be complaining the likes of which you have never seen!!! "2.1 didn't make me breakfast in bed this morning, I'm switching to iPhone!", "All that wait time for this!!!", "Where's the update to fix the update?", and yes of course the dreaded "Stupid Sprint!!! 2.1 bricked my phone (probably because I turned the power off mid install, but that's not the point, anyone should be able to do anything to this phone when directions clearly tell you what not to and I ignore said directions, stupid Sprint)"

I know everyone may not want to, but root your phone and flash a custom ROM. I'm running fresh 2.0d (2.1 ROM) and it's running flawless. Youtube work perfect. Heck, everything works. If you are interested let me know and I will put together a "package" of what I did and what files I used and a step by step guide. I have rooted both my wife's and my hero with no problems. I even unrooted and went back to stock 1.5 just to make sure I could. 2.1 runs rings around 1.5 and I have really had fun trying out different ROMs. I just make a backup of my current setup, wipe and flash the new ROM. If I don't like it, I just restore my backup. Anyway, let me know if you want me to put this together for you. I promise you will not be disappointed. BTW even though everything worked flawlessly for me, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE. As with everything, anything is possible. ;)

Since when did this forum turn into a rant fest?

Since mbell75 started hating his hero.

Honestly, I kinda agree with the OP though. 2.1 was going to bring new life into the hero, but what's the point now? There are new toys on the horizon! I have fresh 2.0d right now and my phone works better than ever. There isn't a single feature that I use that doesn't work. For that reason alone I don't care when 2.1 comes out. I don't think I'm going to upgrade anyways. What could it possibly offer me?

As for the EVO, I went and played with an HD2 and think it is actually a little too big. Amazing yes, but larger than I want. I really wish we could get a 4G galaxy S. A little smaller and much better screen. The rest of the features are cool, but who cares...

I'd love step by step instructions, I want to try this.

I would love to root, but over at android central there are a few threads on it that show what it would consist of, and it is just too much for me to try and mess with since my phone is stock and only about 3 weeks old.

Backing up my phone, getiing SDK and usb drivers, so much other stuff that I don't think I'm comfortable with. I thought about just running the leak without rooting my phone but then I saw this Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out April 16th and it says 2.1 will start rolling out the 16th so I may just wait ...sadly =(

That article is a joke. We have known HTC was rolling out the 2.1 to other countries starting on the 16th, but in their release they never said when the US will get it. The author of that article says we may have to wait a few days before it starts in the US and a few days more before we all get it... Just making stuff up is not journalism and is one reason to hate bloggers. That guy might as well just say, "Hey I decided instead of working today and actually tracking down someone from Sprint who really knows when it will happen, I will just regurgitate info we already knew and throw in my own little spin on it so when it doesn't actually roll out to the US this week I can say, I said it would take a few days extra."

I do not understand why people complain about YouTube? I go to YouTube.com and watch whatever I wish. is this because the pointless YouTube app dose not work? j have no problem using the YouTube bookmark.

also, why bother to post these "I'm taking my ball and leaving" rants?

When you watch the video do you use the HTC Flash Player or the Youtube app? (or do you watch from the Youtube desktop website?)

Interesting. I have to select the player but it still doesn't play (unless it takes some time to load up?)

hmmm, my phone is not rooted.

I do not have to choose a player, it just works. No matter what I run into on the stock browser. When I am on youtube.com or someone has embedded a youtube video onto their website the HTC player opens it as soon as I click on the video. Works flawlessly every time.

I am not rooted either. Interesting. Oh well, it's not a big deal for me since I'm always near a PC whenever I want to browse Youtube. 2.1 whenever it's released should fix this issue.
