** MEHTOD REQUIRES ROOT ** <-- Accessing and changing files in "/system/app" requires Root access.

Alright well, I just thought it would be useful to have this somewhere in the MetroPCS forum. Why am I posting here? Because this applies to all Android phones whether they are from MetroPCS or not.

For those who have a MetroPCS Android phone, it is safe to delete the "Mms.apk" file from "/System/app". This is the stock Messaging app that comes with all devices. HOWEVER, it is never a bad idea to have a BACKUP of said app just in case. You can never be too careful.

Anyways,

BEFORE you delete/move the "Mms.apk", you want to download any messaging app from the market, say.. GO SMS which is the one I use.

~* Instructions for GO SMS *~

1.) Open the app and click the menu button on your device to bring up the menu options.

2.) Tap on "Settings" and select the "Advanced" tab. Scroll all the way down and tap on "Important Tips". Check the "Stock SMS Uninstalled?" option.

3.) Go back to the previous menu and now tap on "MMS Settings". Scroll all the way down and check the "Fill APN Configuration Manually". Then insert the following information:

MMSC: http://mms.metropcs.net/mmsc
MMS Proxy: wap.metropcs.net
MMS Port: 3128

4.) Delete/Move stock "Mms.apk" from "/system/app".

5.) Enjoy sending MMS through a better & customizable app. :)

NOTE: To send a regular MMS message from GO SMS, create a standard text message, tap on the paper clip at the left of the input field, then tap on the fifth icon. Finally, select whatever is that you want to send. It should work just fine.

The actual MMS settings used in this post were taken from the following thread in a different forum:

Oh nevermind. Just read the other thread. In GO SMS' Send settings, do you have "MMS Group Chat" enabled? If so, disable it and try again.

Always send and retrieve mms through GO SMS and not any other app. I would also recommend asking another person to send you a mms since the problem could be with that person's iPhone. Its always good to test receiving mms from more than one phone to make sure that the phone sending it is not the problem.

Note: Make sure you always have your mobile data enabled when downloading mms as for doing so over Wi-Fi is not going to work.

Yeah group chat is NOT checked.

I tried several phones and non worked. I can send but cant receive. Install the stock app in the background and it goes back to working perfect.

I would love to get this working right somehow, I hate having useless apps on my phone that I dont need and I would love to get rid of the stock SMS

I am able to receive mms BUT it's a bit slow. Like I would open the msg look at a download button and wait for it to download. With stock my mms opens instantly like sms unless i have my data off, then i would have to turn it on and download manually. i think when I'm not too lazy i will reinstall the stock as it does the job nothing fancy is what i like.

edit - ok so I just reinstalled stock and was going through the settings and it has a "auto retrieve mms" box i had clicked. I didn't see this option in go sms but I'm guessing thats what is needed to be cbecked if you can find it. oh well now I'm too lazy to install go again haha.

Yeah, unfortunately GO SMS hasn't made MMS auto-retrieveable through their app. Instead, they refer you back to the stock app. It only auto-retrieves MMS when the stock app is installed. :(

-------------------------------

Fuzzy, it has to be something with your settings. It works perfectly fine for me. Maybe if you tell me more about what you think is not letting you receive MMS, I might find a solution for you. :)

No clue dude. I've tried this numerous times before, editing the proxy and url's and what not and never once got it to work.

But all settings and changes you described, were made. Checking all other settings and i see nothing that would affect retrieval of messages.

Just letting all of you know that I am working in editing system files to make MMS work without having the stock Mms.apk installed. When I get it right and I find that no bugs are present, I will completely re-do the main post of this forum.

For now, it ONLY works with GO SMS. (While not having Mms.apk installed.)

[In the process, I am also learning how to use Eclipse. I already have everything I need. The SDK, JDK, and the Eclipse Add-on for Android Development. I also use APKTools to decompile apks. Be patient guys... :p]

It works for the Connect. I can send and receieve MMS without problems and without having the mms.apk installed using GO SMS. But like I said, I will be working on a permanent solution soon. My main guess is that the Mms.apk has the correct APN settings, the same settings that probably are wrong in the Framework-res.apk. Its a big change, since it requires modifying the framework.

So the connect framework and the esteem framework are drastically different? Seems like they would been very similiar.

Not in my belief. Both frameworks should be close to being identical, though there are few hardware differences such as the HDMI output on the esteem and the 1.2GHz dual-core processor of the Connect. They both run the same Android OS, come with (pretty much) the same stock apps, both phones are made by the same manufacturer, and they both are from the same carrier.

----------------------------------

The only app I know that allows for you to enter the APN settings manually is GO SMS which is why it is the only method that works without having the stock mms.apk installed. This is what leads me to believe that it has to be the APN settings inside the Framework-res.apk. Those are the settings all third-party sms and mms apps must use for the retrieval and sending of mms.

Hey guys. I tried this and it doesn't work for me. I have a Note 2 from Sprint and I don't see the stock mms.apk app. (Yes It's rooted) I did see SecMms.apk and moved that.

Anyone know where I could download the MetroPCS messaging app?

If you're on Sprint, why would you want the Metro MMS.apk?

Your best shot is to get the Galaxy SIII mms.apk :)

I have a HTC evo flashed to metro and I already have the app everything works fine except that for only one person in my contacts it does not let me send messages to him. I can receive messages and pictures from him and I can send pictures but when I try and send texts it says "To take advantage of TextTalk SMS, please dial *611 from your MetroPCS handset to upgrade your rate plan. Thank you, MetroPCS" do you know What might be the problem
