Change primary shortcut icons (not the apps themselves)?

I know how to swap the programs in the bottom Primary Shortcut bar, but I want to change the actual icons each one uses.

I have customized the icons on my home screens with a set of darker, more 3D icon images, and the stock phone/contact/calendar/etc icons just don't match.

How can I keep the same programs but use a different icon in the Primary Shortcuts?
If possible I would like to avoid using a separate loader to do this.
Any ideas?

You can't do that with the Touchwiz launcher. You'll need Nova Launcher or similar.

Edit: Grabbed Nova and had a look, and quite like it! Thanks for the tip.
