Hey guys im new here and thought id fire away at a few problems I've been having with my one x

The phone is on orange (recently switched to EE) and I can't update it from 4.1.1 to 4.1.4 I think that's the newest version? Anyway it says no available updates.

My phone isn't rooted because I'm clueless and would most likely brick the phone.

I was surprised at how a phone with tegra 3 and a powerful quad-core processor can't run games like shadowgun smoothly even though the game is optimized for tegra 3 handsets..am I right? I kill all other tasks...charge battery to full, have switched between WiFi and mobile data ... No diffrence :(

If anyone could help me out with either issues I would be eternally grateful : D

I apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum

4.1.1 is the latest for the HOX here in the UK - mine is an unlocked, unbranded SIM-free version. Assume you've definitely picked up the Tegra 3 Quadcore version? You can double-check in Settings - About - Hardware Information. Games on mine run fine including Shadowgun, Riptide, Dead Trigger etc. Very fast phone.

I had no problems running shadowgun on mine, in fact it outperformed and looked better than on my wifes S3, it was unbranded but don't think that affects performance.

For a start don't use a task killer, there is no need it's not a PC so you don't need to constantly clear memory plus HTC's multitasking will keep it all in check (sometimes too much). Have you given the phone a factory reset since the update? Honestly something so simple can refresh the phone and get it grafting again... I had battery problems after the JB update but a reset and disabling google now put that right.

Hi guys thanks for the replies

I've checked and it states 'quadcore' but I'm not sure how to find out if the phone has tegra 3??

I've read up about game lag on the one x and it seems I'm not the only one. Apparently the phone doesnt use all of its processors when playing games and the fix is to root the device so you use all of the 4 cores while playing games so no lag? I'm not sure if that's correct but is this the only fix?

Its kinda weird that dead space was pre installed with 'ea games' and that hiccups when playing..not smooth at all.

I thought my device was faulty until games like temple run 2 run very smooth

Is there anything I can alter in developer options to help? Force 2d rendering doesn't make any difference.

Thanks guys for any help

I ran quadrant and its 5489..everything was smooth till the one the rotation image

that's pretty bad, well at least for me.

my score is 14867 with stock ROM and kernel, and not rooted and factory unlocked, i'm not even factory-resetted the phone...yet.

probly a defect? return it ASAP.

HTC One X...is...better than iPhone 5 and S3 in my personal opinion
the UI is too good (sense) that i won't even bother trying custom ROMs

it is also butter smooth and can run any games fluently.
Modern Combat 4, Dead Trigger, Asphalt 7, Infinity Blade...etc etc

so i guess its a defect..

From memory, 6k on quadrant is average tbh. Check out some of the kernel threads on Xda and there are some results in our Where is Jellybeans sticky too iirc. I'll post my results when I get mine back from Orange today.

Running CM10, I'd get less than that, but everything ran smoothly.

Tom, which version of Shadowgun are you running? Regular or the THD version made specifically for Tegra? Any other games giving you problems?

hey buddy do you think I should try a factory reset? I've had slight lag on deadtrigger and deadspace but it just seems that my fps is only 60 what may be causing the problem?

thanks for the reply

that's odd, maybe my phone is faulty I'm not sure.

it does seem like my score is an average for the one x according to Google play comments? I might go for the factory reset and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply

I'm sorry but there's no way you have 14867 on Quadrant, Antutu maybe but not Quadrant.

My rooted HOX running ViperX 3.3.7 only does 6640.

I bought both dead trigger and dead space, I'll install tomorrow and see if they work ok for me. I am on a custom ROM though so my results may differ.

No harm in factory resetting, there's an app called Carbon backup on Play which will backup apps and data and restore without root by all accounts.

60 is fine for your FPS too. :)
