To be honest there isn't must between the two in comparison plus the Note 2 has a much larger screen to sap that energy.
Never tried an S3 but my Note 2 is pretty fast, that's for sure.
One thing to note( no pun intended) the instore phones/tablets etc are played with all the time and I would bet there are a lot of apps running in the background, leading to a slight lul in performance, I once played with the ipad 4 instore and managed to close around 40 apps that people had left open while playing around, after all, that's what they're there for.

Depending on how much faith you put in the benchmark apps like AnTuTu and such, when I got my note I ran AnTuTu against both my friend's S3's and they each scored 9k-10k total score. The Note pulled a 19k score.

That made me smile...them...not as much : - )
AnTuTu - 19,6k
Quadrant - 6700+k
S3 vs Note 2 is like BMW M series vs Geo Metro with stick shift ;)

so youre saying that the note 2 is like a geo metro and the S3 is a BMW? wow that slower on the note 2?

There is much more lag in the native camera app and home button on the Note 2 than the S3, it's very noticeable.

i actually found that the camera on the note 2 has less lag than on the S3.

I sincerely wished I could say the same. I have had 3 Note 2's, previous were defective in various ways. My third I do like very much but it sure does have it's idiosyncrasies. Every Note 2 Vs S3 I have played with all display the same anomalies. The camera once launched nearly freezes up the entire device for a second or two. ALL Note 2 home buttons have lag and disabling S-Voice does not help it at all. All this being said I keep it and deal with it because it IS the best smartphone currently available. Lets all see how the S4, htc One, and iPhone 6 turn out like.

Two possibilities:

1) I've read that the note 2 has both a bit of input latency and screen update latency (sub 10ms). I personally am not sensitive to such latency (perhaps years of using an older ips lcd screen) but I've heard of a few people on various forums raise bloody hell. I suspect there is some truth to what I've read though they do not compare to other phones (that is to say this might not be unique to the note 2).

2) The phone at the store might have had a large number of background processes (did you check). Typically the 'demo' program (for example) that verizon runs really kills the phones performance.

What I can say first hand is that when I purchased the driod razr I thought it was the first phone 'fast' enough for me to start using a smart phone. When I upgraded to the note 2 I was already of the opinion that the razr was slow as molasses and the note 2 is just plain fast. Anyways from a processor perspective the s3 should be close to 1/2 the speed as the note 2 (quad core a9 vs dual core a9); though if you have an european model of the s3 the story might be different.

i got the S3 (not international version) and ive noticed that the Note 2 is a bit slower, esply when you scroll thru the home screens.

i want Note 2.. but i hope i dont get disappointed with iany slowness. maybe some of u guys can share experiences between the Note 2 and S3.
