Help Is HTC Incredible screen scratch resistant?

The iPhone uses some type of hardened glass that is very resistant to scratching. Other people (not me) have tried to scratch it with keys and it just won't do it.

Meanwhile I have an HTC G1 with glass that easily scratches and easily breaks. Its hard to break the glass on the iPhone.

What does HTC use for these Nexus One like phones? (Nexus One, Desire, Incredible, etc). Are they likewise using hardened glass?

If they use hardened glass, chances are you won't have any use for a screen protector.

If it's anything like the Eris, its a glass with some sort of durable coating stuff on it I think.

I don't use a screen protector, had it for 5 months, no scratches. I wouldn't throw it in your pocket with your keys, but if you did it accidentally for a few hours I doubt it would do any permanent damage.

There is at least one scratch test video for the Eris. He couldn't scratch it with keys, but he did with a knife. Believe me...he was trying pretty hard though.

In the official Incredible thread, someone posted a video attempting to scratch a screen on a Nexus One with scissors. He was not able to scratch it. (No I don't have the link to the video, the thread is too large to find it.) It would seem that the Incredible would get that same glass (I'm assuming this, but it makes sense).

Dude. they can patent the scratch resistant glass unless it's manufactured by apple.

According to Steve Jobs: mobile computing and tablet computers were his idea, Flash is the only thing that crashes Macs and Google is evil. You bet your ass he has a patent on glass. I heard they are suing SNL because of a "I'm not touching you" skit that Apple apparently owns the multi touch gesturing to.

"I" believe that the iGlass that Apple uses for its iPhone has a patent on it, and that the i stands for "incredible" glass. So, I'm pretty sure that one of the holdups on the release of the incredible is the pending lawsuit from Apple for using the i in the incredible ....

(oh, and I am now expected a cease and desist order from Apple because I've used the letter i 19 times in the body of this message - excluding the parenthetical).

If apple owned the glass they wouldn't have licensed it to HD2 and other competitors. Just as above user said, Gorilla Glass makes scratch resistant glass for Motorola Droid, samsung and others. Sorry apple does not own the patent on scratch resistant glass, they get their glass from another company called Balda. If you have any proof that apple owns a patent on scratch resistant glass, please do share.

It was sarcasm. Sarcasm doesn't work so well via text. works better talking face to face.

You seem a bit dim.

Didn't know if it was a sarcasting reply I was too focused on the words when Dex said "You bet your ass he has a patent on glass" that kind of pissed me off. Maybe because I hate apple and their iphone so much and don't like people defending Steve Jobs.

I forgot to put in the ;) in my comment. I too dislike apple and their iphone. I have heard they had tried to patent the letter "i" so that was the motivator of my sarcastic post. I haven't bothered to verify if they really did try and patent "i" ... and I don't really care to :)

All this Apple bashing is off topic for this thread. I'm sure there are plenty of Apple bashing threads available.

I have the droid Inc. Made the mistake of throwing It in my pocket with a lighter. Although I cant see It when I'm using the phone. When its off, I can see multiple long scratches in the glare.
It is so depressing. I have the extra insurance . maybe Ill pay that 80 for a new.phone. any suggestions on possible resin filler lemme know.;-(

The inc. is scratch resistant but does not use gorilla glass (its manufactured and patented by Corning by the way)

I'd beg to differ in the most respectful of manner. I had my 2nd Incredible. Ist one the camera crapped out within the 30 days, so brand new #2 arrived. I took decent care of it, thought I'd get away with no case as I'm very careful, and I also thought this phone was scratch resistant as I never had a scratch on my Eris.. I never even put the phone in the same pocket as keys, I honestly have no idea if my dogs nail got a piece of it while the phone was on the floor or what. anyway one day I notice a GASHER. like WTF. how, no. anyway, I called *611 told them I had a blown speaker, and the rest is history. Verizon robs us every month with their outrageous rates. A refurb here and there won't kill em...

Here is what you do. Call *611, tell them anything, blown speaker blah blah, whatver ur feelin, they will send a refurb, and all they do is check the numbers, hell i bet you could send it a rooted, and have the wet stickers, and STILL be ok.
