BBC iPlayer on Jelly Bean

I've been trying to get the iPlayer app to work on my Nexus 7 for a while now and have failed miserably. I initially thought it just plain wouldn't work due to the non availability of Flash, but that appears to not be the case.

I installed the BBC Media Player app which the iPlayer app says it needs, but whenever I choose a program (TV or radio), the loading icon spins for a bit and then the app just goes back to the screen where it shows the program information. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the app but the problem persists.

Before this attempt I did install Flash from somewhere (not the play store). Did wonder if that would be the problem, but I can't find it in the list of installed apps in order to remove it.

Interstingly, I can got to the iPlayer website and it will play a TV program, but not radio (and its the radio I'm most interested in at this point!).

Has anyone got iPlayer working on their Nexus (or other Jelly Bean device)?

Interestingly, just tried it on my JB Desire HD and it worked fine (not sure why that didn't occur to me before now!). A friend who has a Nexus 7 also has no problems, so looks like something up with my Nexus. Maybe a factory reset is called for..

Interestingly, the phone doesn't work at home (and the Nexus doesn't after a factory reset). Which suggests a problem with my router or broadband..

I have been using BBC iplayer on my Nexus 10 under Android 4.2.2 for a while and it has been fine - until the latest update to Chrome. Now whenever I run iplayer it tells me I need to install BBC media player (which is already installed). The only options are "install media player" or "cancel". I've tried reinstalling both iplayer and media player with no success. This is very bad news for me as one of the main uses for my Nexus was watching BBC iplayer. If I had known this was going to happen I would have gone with ipad instead. Nobody else seems to be getting this particular problem on the Nexus 10, although it is exactly the same problem I get on my laptop if I try to use iplayer under Chrome. But I can get round it there by using Internet Explorer.

Have you tried a reset? I know it can be a pain, but it sounds like the iPlayer and Media player have got their knickers in a twist..

Thanks alhenderson. No I haven't tried a reset yet - I'll need to build up my strength for that with a few stiff drinks. If all else fails I might have to try it. I'm sort of hoping a fairy godmother will apppear with a simple fix. I'm a born optimist

It's not a big deal at all, especially on a tablet. Did my N7 a few weeks back, left it alone for a good hour or so to update itself after the reset and all was well

I have an update on this: I have confirmed that the problem is with Chrome. I uninstalled Chrome updates to roll me back to the original version and iPlayer immediately worked properly again.
