Hiding Pictures

I would like to be able to hide certain pictures from my friends when they are playing with my phone. I don't want to install an application for this. Awhile back, I remember reading in a thread (could not find it in the search) that one could change the name of the file a certain way and it would not show up. Ring a bell to anyone? Thanks.

1. Make sure the pics you want to hide are in their own folder
2. Download Astro
3. Open Astro and look for the folder that has the images you want to hide.
4. Long press the folder and select edit then rename.
5. Put a period in front of the file name.
6. Goto View in the top menu and select Set Directory Options
7. Check "Show Hidden Files" to have the folder viewable (when you want it)
8. Un check this option to hide the folder and its content.

Done.;)

If you don't think they'll be poking around in Astro, you could remove pictures from the Gallery by simply copying one of the .nomedia files from some other folder, into the folder that has the nud... i mean, private... pics ;)

To find an existing .nomedia file, go into Astro and do a search for the file name .nomedia ... there should be dozens of them if you've installed any number of apps. Go to one of those folders, copy the .nomedia file, and then paste it into your private folder.

I'm not sure if it takes effect immediately but if you want to force a rescan of the SD card you can download a free app called SDRescan from the Market.
