My friend dropped her brand new Razr HD in toilet today. She pulled it out pretty quick and turned it off. I'm wondering if there is anything else she can do other than wait for it to dry out before turning it back on? How long should she wait?

The crazy thing is the reason she bought this new phone is she dropped her old Droid 4 in the toilet too. It worked for a while but we turned it off and started blowing canned air in the ports to get the water out and bunch came out. After 15 min or so she tried to turn it back on and the phone would work but the display wouldn't.

Anyways, any advice would be much appreciated.

As mentioned above put the phone in a zipped up baggy with a bunch of rice. Leave it in there for some 48 hours or so. It can potentially be saved if you get all of the moisture out before it is turned back on. It could be ruined if turned on before the moisture is removed entirely.

The phone does have a hydrophobic coating on all of the internal hardware which should greatly improve the odds that the phone will end up working fine. Still I suggest playing it safe and using the above method.

There are some water which is remain in the device that leads to the broken of display.Use a hair dryer to dry the device and if needed, you should remove the back of the device and take off the battery and dry inside.

Never use a hairdryer on a wet device. The heat can cook the circuitry. Or it can blow the water deeper into the device. The rice trick seems to be the most common route, but you will be left without a phone for 2 days and the waiting is unbearable. Inevitably, you'll want to check if the phone works before the water has fully evaporated and that's when the damage occurs. But as others said, if you're gonna drop a phone in the toilet, it might as well be a RAZR. I just hope it was a clean toilet...

Turning the device on is the worst possible thing you can do. Even if you drop it in rice, there is no guarantee that it will ever work the same again. The device has now been exposed to water. Should any other issues arise an insurance claim is the only way she will ever get the device replaced, unfortunately. I wish you the best of luck. I skipped the rice and just left my wife's Fascinate off for a few days with the battery removed (which you can't remove on this device) and it has worked fine for more than a year.
