Can anyone tell me what is up with android sms mms
75% of the time I cant send a single picture I cant send a short vid @ all of the kids to my wife whos been gone for over 7 months now for work..

I had iPhone before this & everything ran fine could send any pic any vid I wanted since the switch to the note 2 I'm kinda regretting doing it because of this..:(

The sms it total garbage compared to apple I've tried the default sms of course I've tried gosms handcent and almost every other one in the play store.. Every one is crap

What can a guy do to just be able to send stuff

handcent works for me. Have you enabled the download settings?

I find people who send pics from icrap seem to arrive as short videos! No idea what that is about. Otherwise pics and vids seem to go ok. I guess you have enabled max data sizes in handcent settings? Sometimes vids are better sent as emails due to compression in mms

I've set all settings to max in handcent & still the same outcome I get the spinning circle & nothing goes thru

Auto Download on
Max Send MMS 5mb

In the send message settings @ the very bottom there is this option.
Auto Convert :
Automatically convert high quality pictures,mp3s,and videos to "Handcent MMS+",and send it using the Handcent Network.

Should I use this..??

Thanks

Hello and welcome to Android Forums. :)

I've tried the default sms of course I've tried gosms handcent and almost every other one in the play store.. Every one is crap :

That's a pretty big clue right there, Cid67. ;) If you're unable to get consistent performance from several different, proven and popular apps of the same kind (sms in this case), then that fact points away from the apps and toward your device's configuration or the user's configuration and use of said apps.

Those particular apps aren't "crap" or they would not have been around for very long with millions of users. ;)

I'd hazard a guess that the issues you're experiencing could be washed out with a slow, thorough look at the menus, along with making sure you've disabled or better yet removed the sms app(s) you're not using, as conflicts can occur, especially with the apps services bumping into each other as commands to "send" are invoked.

Suggestions:

- Decide which app/widget to use/clear its cache and data

- Remove or freeze/hide all other apps of the same type after going into application manager and clearing their cache and data as well

- Go to the recovery menu and do a "wipe cache partition" from the recovery menu:

Turn off your phone.

After the device is turned off, press the following combination of buttons in the same time:

Volume up + power button + home button, and keep these buttons pressed until the recovery mode will be displayed.

When you’re in the recovery mode, you can release the buttons.

Navigate to "wipe cache" using the volume down button.

Hit the power button. Wait.

After it's finished wiping the cache partition it will return to "reboot" as the default; hit power once more to reboot.

I am in the same boat, but I can send pictures, just not videos. But the problem most likely isn't the phone but your carrier. When I had my Iphone and other phones on AT&T I could send pictures or videos of any size without a problem. When I switched to US Cellular I couldnt send videos at all, no matter what size. Its US Cellulars fault though, not my Note 2. For some reason the network just refuses to send videos, even over LTE or 3G. Very annoying.

I had problems sending pics with only one bar or two of service at home. Regular text messages are not a problem. I downloaded ( Text Free) from the market and now I can send photos without a problem, instantly.
We shouldn't have to get extra apps with such a great phone for such a simple task.
But it gets the job done! I send pics often to communicate with my family and this app has helped.

Why not just send pictures and videos via Gmail? I find it to be much easier then sending them via text/mms, ect. I have found sending pictures and videos via text to be unreliable on any phone. I've never had a problem with it on my Note 2 but, I use Gmail if I'm sending more then just 1 or 2 pictures and Dropbox if I'm sharing allot of pictures & video's.

I don't think it's you're Note 2. There are allot of different things that can mess up a picture or video when sent via text. Signal on you're end and the other end, size of picture, length of video, just to much to list.

Try Gmail, works every time. Dropbox is also a great way to send/share pictures, videos or any type of file. I hope you get this worked out. Good luck.

Also are you able to send the videos and picture through WiFi, maybe you have a data issue, maybe your issue is more your carrier versus your phone ?? I have a family member that has Bell and she has the same issue with a different phone.

I am on Bell yes.. Same issue while connected to WiFi

We all had iPhones could send pretty much any sized photo or video to each other without a hitch..
I get the Note 2 it took me literally over an hour to send 1 pic to my wife it just sat there spinning & spinning with the default app..I have deleted all other sms apps off my phn what the point of having something if it aint gonna work...

So I got the same photo on my sons iPhone sent it in less than a second...
So yah idk cant say its not the note 2..lol

All I can say is ever since the last update to the Note 2,

(Not 4.1.2 but the small update that had bug fixes and added Samsung Link so you can transfer you're information like contact's, ect. To any other device.)

I now have no issues sending Pictures and MMS via text. Before the small update a month or two ago, I couldn't send picture's ect.. Via text on Wifi, nor could I receive them.

I'm with T-Mobile though so I'm not sure if we get the same type of updates since carries send out different updates at different time's.

I do know T-Mobile is usually the last carrier to get updates out to there top selling/most popular/most expensive/high end, phone's.

(Hence the reason why they are the 3rd biggest carrier in the USA)

Maybe you got the update since you're on Bell. You'll probably even get 4.2.2 far before us T-Mobile, Note 2 owners will.

Back to the point. I'm sure by now you know that you made the right choice switching to the, Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It's the best phone on the market still, even with the Galaxy S4 being on the market for some time now.

Anyhow, I hope you got the update and can now send MMS and pictures via text. I only had the problem when I was on Wifi. I could always send/receive, MMS, pictures and video of any size when I was on 4G.

Let me know if you're issue is resolved and how you got it fixed.

I'm on TMO and have had none of those text/mms issues from day one. I purchased my N2 as soon as it was released. My TMO service has not only been great, TMO has been on the ball in terms of updates.
