What do you want to see in Samsung's new flagship Galaxy device? :)

March 14 is nearing and everyone is excited for the announcement of Samsung's new flagship Galaxy Device, the Samsung Galaxy S IV GT-I9500. Many are expecting marvelous specs to come along it and it would definitely be a beast in the mobile department.

Many rumors are floating that the Galaxy S IV will sport the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 for all variants and others say that Samsung will put the Exynos 5 Octa on the International Version and QC Snapdragon 600 on the US Variant.

Well, we won't know until March 14, right?
So here I ask you. What do you want to see on Samsung's new flagship Galaxy Device?

For me,

1.) S-Pen Functionality
- Samsung bought 5% of Wacom's stake to bring a better S-Pen for the 2012 Flagship Note Device, the Note II and I think Samsung will bring the S-Pen integrated for the S IV.

2.) Exynos 5-Octa with LTE Support
- As far as I know, Exynos 4 Quad does not support LTE thus Samsung is making another variant of device having LTE Support. Just like their 2012 Flagship Galaxy Device, the Galaxy S III. The international GSM version, GT-I9300 and international LTE version, GT-I9305.

3.) Better Screen
- Well, its older brothers, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S2, already have a great screen and Samsung proved that they make great panels for phones. But it needs to be better. I mean, blacks are really black on the S2 and S3 but sometimes it becomes over saturated.

Well, there are still many in my mind but I still can't of any supporting details for it. :)

Will probably fall short in the few areas.. :D

1080p Display (RGB, Not PenTile)
OLED tech or similar
5" screen (but phone still similar size to the S3)
Quad Core Cortex A15 2GHz
PowerVR SGX544MP4 400MHz
13MP camera, better sensor able to handle low light conditions
microsd slot support for 64GB
32-64GB versions (no 16GB version!!)
2500+ mah battery (removable)

That's not really true. Looks like you forgot about Note 2. It has Quad Exynos 4 and LTE modem for all US carriers. Older generation qualcomm LTE modems didn't support non-snapdragon APs, but that's no longer the case. So there is no reason Exynos 5 can't work with LTE modems. If US versions of GS4 come with snapdragon 600, that would be for different reason.

Looking forward to things like a 5" 1080p SAMOLED screen.

Hoping for design fixes, as far as I'm concerned a 5" galaxy nexus with octacore processor and mali t628 would be awesome. The Gnex has a non slippery back, it has a controllable notification light (GS3 never let me control colors, even on custom roms), it has the bottom headphone jack, and no weird combo of physical and software buttons. The only issue with the Gnex is poor LTE reception, no Microsd card slot, and overall a weak cpu and gpu meaning no HD video playback. The GS3 can do 720p, but nothing 1080p that I give it works (Though I'm sure it can do 1080p youtube).

Are you talking about the hotspot?

Manufacturers already give it to you for free, its the carriers that lock it down to charge. Theyre the ones providing the data after all.

Yea that is true I guess. VZW does block I didn't know that i thought it was the phone it self. VZW wants another 30 bucks a month ugh.

Some things I hope for:

- newest Jellybean (timely subsequent upgrades)
- 4.9" 1080p OLED+ screen
- 2500+ mAh battery
- newest Snapdragon processor
- enough internal power to keep up with HTC One
- 32 GB version
- better looking build quality on sides & back than GS3 had
- better camera than GS3 had
- much better TouchWiz than GS3 had
- notification light
- physical home button
- removable battery door

Most of these will never happen but I can dream!

  1. Great battery life (use iPhone as a benchmark).
  2. Fast, smooth performance.
  3. An SD card.
  4. Removable TouchWiz.
  5. Ability to disable any nifty feature which isn't so nifty.
  6. Expedient updates.
  7. PC drivers which just work.
  8. Industry standard button layout (back button on the left).
  9. Built to be held with grippy materials. I'm tired of these slippery bars of soap we always get.

Actually I think 1~3, 6, 7 in your list are likely to happen, but not so positive about others.

Of course a certain someone will come in and say benchmarks don't mean anything.

I'll certainly say it. Benchmarks are good for comparison purposes, for filling up otherwise blank space in reviews in lieu of real-world data, and for boosting e-peen on teh interwebz. Otherwise they mean nothing. :)

Let me put it this way.... given the choice of two devices, one which scored higher benchmark figures and another which just 'felt right', I'd choose the second every time. I'm pretty sure that the majority of users think similarly too. The best handset in the world is worth diddly-squat if it doesn't do what the user wants it to, in a manner that he/she enjoys.

Choice.... it's a wonderful thing to have. ;)

for hardware, i'd like to see:
1) front facing stereo speakers
2) s-pen
3) i might be alone on this one... mini-display on the back for self portraits
4) and this one... FM transmitter wouldn't hurt
5) AM radio, seriously.

VERY HAPPY they decided to add an IR-blaster!!!

they could make it prettier, but honestly, looks are more than good enough for me and probably my last priority when looking for a phone (i'm throwing it in a plastic skin anyways).

software:
1) more/better built-in apps/widgets, like flashlight, clock, photo editor....
2) the ability to make any settings option a shortcut.

I think they have maxed out the spec wise, they are not going to into screen resolution beyond 1080p, or have 16 core.

I cant tell if you truely believe that or not.. .

Companies that stop innovating cease to exist.

The specs will keep on increasing. It may not always be by leaps and bounds, but the hardware companies will fight each other for every inch to make a sale.

You have to remember phones are in the development pipeline for years. Not only will there be something better, but its already becoming a reality.

Have you heard of the term "diminishing return"?

The mobile hardware can't not maintain at the grow as it has in the past 3 or 4 years.

It will become how the laptop industry has become. For example, the screen resolution for laptops has not really improved in the past few years, just CPU refresh every generation etc.
