Man, I really don't want to do a FDR. So much game data... so many flows completed...

If your save game files were saved to the sdcard, then there is a good chance that you won't lose the saves. The sdcard is untouched during a FDR. If the save games are in the internal memory, then you could move them to the sdcard or your computer and move them back after the FDR.

There is a chance that your games may not recogize the saves, but the FDR is well worth it.

I always back up my internal memory and the sdcard before an FDR. If anything is lost during the FDR, I can always put it back...

I haven't tried tethering on JB yet, so I can't comment there. However, I can address the rooting part. I manually loaded JB on my Maxx last night and promptly rooted it using the info at this link.

Worked like a champ. After this, I was able to restore almost all my apps and settings in one shot from an update.zip I created with TiBu before upgrading. It was the easiest and fastest upgrade/flash I've ever done, thanks to these great devs!

If I remember right, people on metered or shared date plans get the hotspot service for free. I think that the FCC slapped Verizon's hand and said if your going to charge for metered bandwidth, you should be able to use if for anything you want to use if for. Unlimited data users have to pay for the hotspot service because Verizon can get away with it because it's not a metered service...

I found out this is almost the case, you have to have the share everything plan. I kept my plan of 450 voice/unlimited txt when I upgraded so I could have 2 GB instead of 1 GB data included. They told me I would have to upgrade to the share plan (unlimited talk) to use the hotspot feature. I call BS... :-/ But to go to the share plan would up my monthly by about $20, which I'm not willing to do for something that is a phone feature.

Is Foxfi really broken after the JB update? Hopefully the developer will jump right on the issue and get it fixed. But he may only fix the paid version. I like the program so I will probably update to support the developer...

Yeap,I have the paid version of foxfi and Verizon has found a way of blocking it in this update! :-( I give them a ton of my $ every month,and am NOT willing to pay for hotspot tethering when I already pay them for the internet access already! Not sure wat to do now!

I've used WiFi Tether or Barnacle in the past. I haven't done any extensive testing by any means, but both seemed to at least start up fine with JB and show up on my laptop's wireless network listing. Open Garden is another one I looked at a while back, and I've heard a lot of people mention PdaNet in the past, too, but I've never used either one for more than just a quick look so I can't tell you much about them other than the names.

Hopefully one of those will work for you (or maybe some other people much smarter than me will drop some additional names that you could try!).

I don't think anyone has said that FoxFi works on JB. Even FoxFi says it doesn't work on JB. People are finding other ways to tether on JB, but FoxFi isn't one of them.

I tried to active Foxfi this morning and I got a prompt to install PDANet+. I installed PDANet+ and then got some message that said my subscription wasn't current. Then Foxfis said that it was active, but my tablet couldn't see the phone. At this point I gave up.

Bkline, do you know what apps that others are using to get a wifi hotspot (other than Verizon)?

You can use the Mobile HotSpot for free if you are rooted and willing to make some changes with SQLite Manager. I'm not going to comment on if this is allowed on your contract, that's between you and Verizon. I will say lots of others are using this feature that is NATIVELY built into the phone and Verizon has some nerve to charge $30 a month for something that is already on the phone that's used to access the data that you're already paying for.

Go to the XDA website, go to the Motorola Droid Razr forum and search for the thread:

The step-by-step instructions are post#49 and a crucial note is at post#25 (about what row # to change).

I'm not sure if this works now on JB but several people rooted, did the SQL change, used VooDoo OTA Root Keeper, installed JB, used VooDoo Root Keeper to get root back and retained the Mobile Hot Spot access.

just did the JB update. took about 20 mins or so. not a single problem in doing so, and (so it seems) not a single hitch afterwards. phone runs as it should.

im using ADW launcher. the only thing i see different is the time/date font, and a few icons look a little different ("camera", for example).

That's no longer the case. The Site Rules were ammended some months ago with:

Ok I had been reinstalling everything, due to FDR but one thing that has really impressed the hell out of me is satellite acquisition. It used to take about 2 mins (no joke) then I would get the signal, now it's almost instant. This is fantastic mainly because I use a gps speedo for checking vehicles I work on (fleet) to check the accuracy and adjust, sometimes it would take about 2 miles before it would kick in.

You know what guys, I think doing away with the unlimited data was a bad move but it was also for the better of Verizon and NOT because it helps line their already bulging bank accounts. Yes I said ACCOUNTS. Here is the thing, remember when service and connections were spotty from time to time and you would have low signal?

Well here is a news flash on that for you. You want to fuss at the people that used tethering on the unlimited plan? Don't! Instead focus it on the economy. Now I'm not trying to turn this political topic but honestly when people started loosing their houses and jobs and the like, prices started going up on other things too. For example for good internet it used to be about 20-30 bucks a month right? I remember those days because it was a few years ago. When things started going up like that and the cost of TV, people started bombarding Verizon's system because it was/is the best and fastest by watching Netflix and Hulu and YouTube because it was all cheaper than paying for cable. It also was cheaper to pay for everything on your phone that you are never going to go anywhere without than pay for stuff that you might not always be home to use?

So when you stop to think about it, Verizon limited the data to save their network from crashing and causing loss of service in heavy used areas. I don't like it at all in the first place but it's what needed to happen until they can catch up to the demand of what people are going to ask of it. Mark my words, one day in the not so far away future Verizon WILL bring it back. People aren't going to stand for it forever.

There are a growing number of people that refuse to have smartphones. Honestly I don't feel that there will be dumb phones around very much longer and I have been told such by different people that work for different cell phone companies. By 2015 all dumb phones will be GONE. People all thru the years have said at one point or another that they will never have the new and upcoming thing but eventually are put in a position that they HAVE to have it. Let's say an HD TV. There are NO MORE standard TV's out there to buy if you don't want HD. You might think I'm crazy but I know I'm right! My grandfather said he would never allow a computer in his house at one point. But there came a time where in the 90's that it became part of every job so he HAD to start to learn how to use one. And of course my mom brought one home so we had one.

My final thought is this, think about where you are directing your frustration before you let it loose. You might be slightly misguided in your efforts. In closing, I'm loving Jelly Bean and couldn't be happier. My battery life is improved with my MAXX and I have no issues after my FDR. I say all of this not to be mean, or to fuss but to just try and help.
