Official: HTC announces One Developer Edition for $650

Thought this might interest you folks.

Sounds good, especially @ the price. Would have expected a bit more for this.

Which carriers will this work with?

As tempting as it would be to have a cool 'limited edition' phone, and have the chance to poke around in the software a bit more, I'm not a developer.
As much as I'd like to pretend to be a cool developer, I'm not nor will be anytime, so it would more of less be a waste of the resource and possibly take a 'limited' device away from an actual developer.
If I could, I'd buy one and donate it to my favorite developer

It doesn't look Sprint friendly based on the frequencies that they posted and the fact that it states SIM unlocked, hinting towards a GSM network only device.

I didn't think it would be SPRINT-friendly. As for such a phone being a "waste" on the general public, I'm guessing availability shouldn't be an issue, or, why else would it be offered to anyone for the asking & the $,especially since it's priced about the same as what everyone has guessed for a standard locked/carrier version.

This is still the same device, just has s-off and unlocked bootloader. it is still an HTC ONE in all aspects so lets keep the discussions under one umbrella ladies and gents.

Wonder how unlocked the Developer Edition will be? I'd guess it will be like the HTCDev unlock rather than S-Off, but it will be a lot more interesting if I'm wrong.

Of course it also appears to be US only. But I can unlock a phone myself...

It does, but so does AT&T. The difference comes down to which blocks the phone supports. I believe AT&T is Block B, and Verizon is Block C.

Not likely with those frequency bands (non-UK LTE bands, for example).

I'm pretty sure I read a reply on the HTC blog that said that SIM unlocked handsets will be readily available in the UK (which is true) and that you can unlock the bootloader yourself. Of course this one is 64GB, which we're still waiting for a date for here...

I don't know. I'll just come out and say it.

To me - it seems that HTC releasing a dev One is like them saying - hey, we've figured out how to stop you from getting s-off and here's our answer to that.

Disclosure - I'm very cynical today.

I've had anothe read through their blog post on this and they constantly re-iterate that people outside the US can use the HTCDev unlock, and consistently ignore questions about S-Off.

So I think it's pretty clear that this is just equivalent to an HTCDev unlock.

Shoot, my DNA is more unlocked than that phone will be, I can use it on VZW, AT&T and T-Mobile.

Why cant they be simple like Nexus and just have it unlock.

It will not work with HSPA+ as it is strickly a LTE phone right? Too bad it will not work on Tmo?

Yep, I have a few months before my current Vodafone contract expires and i'm hoping the 64Gb version will be available over here by then.

When you say unlocked, are your talking about about importing a sim unlocked international versions, or buying the US developer edition?

Considering that the version T-Mobile will carry will support LTE, I'm pretty positive the US developer edition will support their LTE. This article on our home site also seems to indicate that the Developer version will support it. I'm not sure on the what LTE bands the sim unlocked international version will support though.
