Thoughts on Samsung S IV presentation?

But I thought moar cores mean better.

Sometimes it does.

If the power savings promise comes true for the Exynos dual-quadcore thanks to its A-7 quad compared to the Snapdragon 600, then moar cores will be the winner.

I think that we need us users to report on that after we get them to know the truth.

Otherwise, it's just my opinion that no one buying an SGS4 of any kind is getting the choppy liver. :)

It wasn't bad, bit more entertaining than others I've seen.

Not much confirmed about the hardware though, but that's normal I guess.

S translate looks very cool.

1. It was horrible. Let's be serious, you haven't seen other presentations. Google and Apple blew Samsung out of the water.

2. What isn't confirmed about hardware? They just announced everything. Stop making excuses for a horrid phone.

3. Gimmick.

But we could have those Quadrant scores if we had the

Octa-Core. *drool*

HTC One got 12600 on Quadrant so it still beat the Octa-core S4.
Chinese leaks with the Snapdragon show the S4 with 7-8k on Quadrant which is worse than last year phones!

I'm going to say the same thing that I said when the Exynos beat the S4 processor last year on benchmarks -

They just don't matter.

Seriously - they rarely indicate a thing in the real world due to how we use our phones - and due to how apps and games are written.

So - which one are you getting do you think?

The SGS4 or the One?

So far, I think they're both great.

If anyone is here to get the One, no need to argue - come chat the positive in the One forum.

If anyone is undecided, both places are great to post in. :)

Or there is another option, like ones like myself. Get whatever one comes to their respective carrier first, then probably get the other one later. ;)

My wife hates me for my phones, lol.

And since I have to pay full retail to keep my unlimited data ( Verizon customer ) selling "this plan" to the wife is alot easier :D

But...but, honey Verizon made me do it :p

Yeah. Gotta respectfully disagree here.

For the SGS3, they got a quad of A-9 architecture, the US got a dual of Kraits, basically A-15 class.

That was done because of parts availability to satisfy LTE needs. The S4 in the SGS3 had a world modem that included everything needed for all US frequencies, all carriers - that meant lower parts count, lower cost, higher reliability, and some benchmarks being ok on one, not on the other. DESPITE what some claim, performance wasn't hugely different.

Now, the Snapdragon 600 Krait processors are 15% more clock-cycle efficient (read: faster) than in the S4 cores used last year.

Either processor - the Exynos dual-quadcore, or the Snapdragon 600, will max out at 4 A-15 cores running at once, tops.

You're free to believe that last year you got chopped liver and it's a repeat this year - but it's not what's in the silicon. ;)

Hope this helps. :)

The quad core a7's offer significant power savings for the dual-quad core model.

Also it is yet to be determined how the GPU's in the two compare, which as far as I'm concerned, is one of the most important comparisons.

Agree 100% on the potential value of the A7 power savings, maybe I said that in a different thread.

Glad you mentioned GPU, those are tricky.

The Snapdragon doesn't use it for screen management or ui management like in the old days, so that leaves gaming as a good true measure. One of the HTC One reviews yesterday came out highly in favor of it for gaming, could not induce any lag there at all. I was surprised, usually they get marks like "almost." Hopefully, this is good news for users of either processor, I can't imagine Samsung getting the GPU wrong.

Some of that gaming lag for any phone has to include io lag, and if A15 class quads won't fix that, I don't know what will.

I know that you didn't mention gaming, I'm just framing a response in those terms as a possible point of interest.

I have a Keurig machine, I love that machine. When I have a day off I must go through about five to six cups of coffee, the largest cup that the Platinum machine makes. And I ain't using weak coffee either.

I've been sucked into the world of Starbucks...lol

When I'm home I have everything I need, snow storms don't scare me in NYC

My Retina Macbook pro, my nexus 7, my nexus 4, and Starbucks :D

Do I get a medal or something for having put up with the presentation TWICE???

I think Antimony nailed it: this show was intended for the mass audience of users. Problem is, most users don't watch product launches: we geeks do! :p :D

Show us the phone, give us the specs, tell us what it does and then you're done, Samsung. You could have saved a fortune. No tap dancing or Broadway-style hip-bumping required. Granted, the kid was good: but PUH-LEASE.

EDIT: The advances in this phone just get me stoked to see what's in store later this year. WOW!

My impressions were that most of the actual audience were tech journos and bloggers (so yeah, geeks), and they didn't come across as too impressed.

As they're the people you want to generate buzz and coverage, tailoring the presentation to engage them would seem the smart move.

I'm sure it will sell well despite this presentation, but I can't see how that presentation would actually help.
