i may be missing something but i noticed the charging port on the incredible is different of almost every other HTC phone, it almost looks like a micro usb instead of the normal htc/mini usb
It's widely believed that it is indeed a micro USB connector. Some time ago, it was adopted as the unofficial "standard" interface for virtually all cell phone makers and you'll find it on pretty much all modern phones.
true, the new blackberries have it, the moto droid has it, a lot of simple feature phones use it as well, but to be honest when i saw the eris had micro, i was hoping HTC would keep using their port, samsung does it with their simple feature phones all the time and so does casio
The format might be the standard, but the power that is supplied from the car chargers sure isn't. In most cases you still have to buy a charger that's officially made for the phone.
In my case I went through 3 chargers before I just bit the bullet and got an official one and now I have no problems.
When I plugged the 3rd party chargers into my Milestone's screen would freak-out. If the screen wasn't locked it would start opening menus and programs like crazy. lol
I welcome a standard port. HTC wasn't much of a problem with theirs but I like to be able to use any old standard usb cable to connect to the computer or wall charger (if its one of those that uses a cable) instead of having to carry a specific cable around all the time. I always end up forgetting it at the desk or at home.

The Samsung I had before my Milestone, it was the same way. Had to use the official charger.
I heard rumor about a year ago that cell phone companies were going to adopt a standard... but I guess it was just the connector, not the power it produced.
