Root Just Rooted, Quick Question

I haven't been able to find anything of value on this topic by searching through the forum.

I just rooted last night and I have been able to do a few things. First I cant search for more HTC widgets, let alone install the battery widget from HTC in the market place as I get an error but I'm starting to figure its because it's not compatiable with 2.1 Sense but still shows up in market.

Same for Google Maps in the market place. I can't install the file after it downloads. I get the message "Installation Unsuccessful"

Any way around this would be much appreciated. I rooted based off of the document in the main Droid Eris forum. I care more about being able to update Maps like everyone else.

Which ROM are you using? All the things you mentioned do work wtih 2.1 as I use them. Did you wipe your data and dalvik before going to the ROM you are using? Have you tried restarting your phone and trying to install those apps again? For the HTC widgets to work, you must go to settings, apps, manage apps and go to htc widgets or something, sorry i cant rem the name and i have it removed on my current rom, but yuo need to clear the cache and then you can get more widgets from htc.

Hi upz33! I flashed the same 2.1 rom, and I had the same exact problems as you. I was willing to deal with it, however I found the Sense-able 2.0 rom and flashed it, and those problems do not exist with this rom, which is based on the 2.1 rom that you flashed. I would recommend flashing Sense-able, because though it has a different, and in my opinion, cleaner look than the stock 2.1, it retains access to all the htc widgets. In my opinion this is a big plus! Sorry for the pitiful grammar and hope this helps.

raphifix is correct about sense-able rom. very clean, very stable and very fast. i put it on a friend phone and not heard a peep out of him. dont forget to wipe data and dalvik before flashing to this rom as well as doing a nand backup before so just incase, you want to go back.

I will look into is. How about just going through GrdLock's guide starting from step 2 since technically I've rooted in his step 1.

Also anywhere to find the guide to doing the dalvik?

You are correct. Start from step 2.

You will have access to the Wipe command once you complete step 2. To get to it, you would power off the phone and then hold the vol up button and then turn the phone back on. It will bring you into a menu of all sorts. Ill give ya a lil help, Wipe is where you asking about dalvik and data (the first 2 options when you go into wipe) backup/restore is something you want to read up on. NAND backup is something very useful when going from ROM to ROM. Hope this helps you out. Do some searching though as all this has been covered many of times. But the help I gave above will get you started into root heaven.

Thanks! I installed the recommended ROM and I love it. Just miss the general stocks app but w/e the Google one replaces it fine enough.

Had some issues with step 2 but finally got it to work correctly.
