Yeah its a shame man. Theres no excuse really. Over here the major carriers pushed their bloated version of 4.1.1 before Samsung did for unbranded s3s.
The US ones have to get their act together
Yeah, I'm contemplating switching from SPRINT to AT&T since they have 4G LTE in my coverage area.
But, SPRINT seems to have the better track record of pushing out updates (not to mention unlimited data).
A NEXUS phone on a GSM carrier is the closest to a guaranteed timely update.
Too bad, as the hardware isn't usually the best on such phones....
The S4 will have 4.2.2 out of the box and that's releasing in late April here in the U.S. so I'm guessing possibly late summer at the earliest for the S3.
But again it's all up to the carriers. Could be earlier, could be later.
If AT&T has the 4.1.2. update with Premium Suite, it has not released it. It is not available on Kies, either.
The reason here is obvious: with the S4 on pre-order since yesterday, AT&T and Samsung have no incentive to upgrade the S3s. They will do so after a couple of months of S4 sales and when the S3 is cleared from the selves. They have followed this practice with the S2 as well. It makes sense from their point of view. It is all about sales, not about existing customers.
