iPhone, Perfect From The Beginning

Silly comparison.

Apple is just one company where as Android has many company's making and designing phones.

They should at least compare to a single brand like HTC or Samsung so you can see how their phones have progressed and how the design differs between the different manufactures.

All that image demonstrates to me is the lack of innovation from Apple since the original iPhone.

I've noticed a commonality in many iPhone 5 reviews..usually as the drawn conclusions at or near the end: "If you're coming off an Andorid Froyo, Gingerbread or Honeycomb, the 5 is a good upgrade for your work or play. But if you've got yourself an ICS or Jelly Bean, you're already ahead."

One reviewer put it this way: "A good update to the iphone 4 and marginal for the 4S. If you are locked into the iOS world, a good phone and looks solid.
If you are an Android or Win user, save your money."

My take on that is that iPhone became a step or two behind a while back, and remains there.

So they left the Lada body style the same over the decades. Pretty close comparison to what they've been doing with the iPhone.. although they did stretch the top to bottom dimension a bit from the 4.

The Lada/BMW - iPhone/Android analogy seems accurate except for the assumption that Lada is better than BMW and iPhone is better than Android.

Baaaaaad assumption. ;)

Have you driven a Lada?

Yes I have actually. They're not particularly comfortable, noisy, a bit slow, but they'll still get you from A to B. For years my father and the neighbour bought Soviet and Eastern Bloc made cars and motorbikes. They had Ladas, FSOs (Poland), Skodas (Czechoslovakia), a 2-stroke Wartburg (East Germany), MZ Motorbikes (East Germany). These were all designed for easy low-cost home servicing.

TBH I thought the old MZ motorbikes were great, very reliable while been very simple at the same time. On the other hand the Czechoslovakian CZ motorbikes were quite horrible. And I passed my driving test in a 1978 Skoda 105s. :D

I guess it kind of rubbed off on me, I'm still fascinated by the cheap, low-tech and being self-sufficient. Maybe one reason why I choose to live and work in rural China.

Thing is if one can't afford to get the BMW, or any other exotic car serviced by the garage, perhaps one shouldn't be driving it? It's like the iPhone in China, you have to pay the full unsubsidised price for it, and it only can really be used on an expensive China Unicom plan. The much lower cost China Mobile doesn't support the iPhone for 3G.

You can't compare Android with hardware as Android is an operating system while iPhone is hardware. But there IS a distinct change from donut to jelly bean. In fact jelly bean blows any version older than 2.3 out of the water...

The BlackBerry hasn't changed much either but I can hardly call them perfect from the beginning, either. Their market is similar to Apple's in catering to those who are resistant to change, or, going with the car comparison, prefer a carburetor and rear-wheel drive over a fancy car with fuel injection and traction control and airbags....and let's face it, RIM is dying...they coined the term 'battery pull' as their OS had a bad habit of locking up for no logical reason...

But rear wheel drive have distinct advantages

But rear wheel drive have distinct advantages

.. until it snows.

Even the girl on reception at the BMW dealer told me beemers are dire in snow. She wasn't wrong.

Sure it was fun, but you could hardly call it effective.

Apparently there's a button on the dash that uses electronics to fix the problem - I have yet to find an opportunity to try, but let's just say I'm more than a little skeptical.

like all things.. rear-wheel drive does have disadvantages too.

but with good tires and the traction control on BMW made from 2000 and up... should be fine in snow. as long as you drive accordingly.
