I have no issues. I didn't even wait to do a factory reset, it should be automatic just so you know you're starting 'clean'. I'm not using the JB launcher, but prefer the Atom launcher.

Each update, I hope that I won't have to do an FDR but each time, I always have a few bugs. So from Eclair to Froyo to GB to ICS to JB, each time I've ended up doing a FDR within about a week after taking the update and each time, it's resolved my issues. Glad to hear of another Atom Launcher fan. It's not mentioned nearly as often as Nova or Apex, but I like Atom the best of the three.

I'm confused because I have a galaxy s2 and updated to 4.1.2 just before my girlfriend updated her razr to the same. My S2 is all new, flashy, new menus/interfaces, text/talk/camera... everything is different and better. Her razr is basically the same as it was on GB, only switching around a few menus (icon locations) and really not much change at all. It pretty much sucks for her. We're both on jellybean 4.1.2 now. I'm on Element mobile which used to be alltel and shes on verizon.

I think what you're probably referring to is updates to the UI, not so much GB to JB. I'm not certain, because I don't have a SGS2, but the "look" of the phone is set by the manufacturer's UI which is "TouchWiz" for Samsung and "Blur" for Motorola. And that's pretty much a matter of personal taste. Motorola has been going more and more in the direction of "vanilla Android", whereas TouchWiz I believe is still quite different than a vanilla Android phone's UI. Myself, I prefer a toned down UI. The functional updates from ICS to JB are probably pretty much the same between the 2 phones.

Everything except what is on the SD card. It is a full data wipe. Takes you back to like it was the minute it came out the box. You will have to redo your email, if your contacts are gmail they will be synced when you enter that account. Apps will be gone and all their settings, same with games and progress.
I took the card out and re-seated it, was then able to access data.

I have small issues with my phone after the update and I took the update thru side loading as soon as it was posted. My issues are lagginess and I still have issues with updates to my apps. I turned off my phone a couple days ago to get rid of the lagginess and when I turned it back on I had 6 updates. I turned it off yesterday for the same reason and had 3 updates. I had these issues before with not only ICS but on my Bionic as well. I turned off automatic updates per some information from Thom and others. I have done an FDR. Things seemed better for awhile, but now it's not so much. I will say this, I run Nova as my launcher. It's the one I like the best.

Issues? Yes. And a FDR has not solved them. Despite doing a factory data reset well over a week ago AND a daily soft reset each and every morning, the phone will still randomly reboot on its own. Just did it about an hour ago.

Frustrating...

Problem solved. I called VZW and they sent me a Razr MAXX HD at no cost to replace my randomly rebooting Razr. Being a 22 year customer has its perks.

I had major issues after receiving JB. Initially an FDR solved most of the issues, but I ended up doing a complete wipe and restore of the JB firmware release so I could get root restored. Wow, my phone is smooth as buttah now! :D

On thing I do find annoying is that every time I finish a call I find myself in the call log. This happens no matter where I started the call from (main screen, etc.). Anyone else getting this? Is there a setting I'm missing?

Thats how the wonderfull verizon/moto/google peeps think we need our phone to work. Dumbest thing I have seen since I stuck a fork in a wall outlet. Im using "On Call End" to have it go to the home screen after each call.

Some inept program manager thought this would be a great idea, while some inept tester was asleep at the wheel and did not log this feature as a bug or tell the manager it was a really bad idea.

Where are you setting the "On Call End" setting? I really like this and hope I can do it too!

Oh, I lke this, I'm going to have to remember this one for future quotes! :p:D

As much as it pains me to say this I may end up calling Verizon to get the lag my phone keeps having after the update. I think I'm going to delete the update file since I did download and side load it and see if that helps. I shouldn't need it anymore correct? I have done every single trouble shooting idea that has been thrown at me and I can't get it to go back to not being laggy.

Did you try Matt's tool which basically wipes and flash's the updated OS? I did this because my phone was really laggy and I couldn't get root back. It solved my problems...

I'm not rooted, and nor will I be.

You don't need to be rooted, and you never will be if you don't want to. I wanted root back, so it helped me. You can use it to restore your phone back to the way the phone was on the day you purchased it, with the exception it will have Jelly Bean on the phone. The app is very easy to use and will definitely leave you smiling!

Here's the link if you want to give it a try:

Is that a harder wipe than an FDR?

Yes, it wipes the OS including any configuration files that might be hiding behind the root. It then installs the factory image. You are left with a phone in a pristine state. FDR only wipes the settings that you setup on the phone. Matt's tool wipes the OS. Believe me, you will see the difference! If you do decide to give it a try, be sure to select option 1.

Ergh, I'm not to keen on doing that actually. I realize it might be the last option I have other than Verizon telling me they are sending me another phone....BUT I did an FDR already and honestly I'm not starting The Simpsons game all over again. LOL. As stupid as that may sound....I'm to far in it. And like really, I don't want to set THIS phone up again. I realize if I'm shipped either a MAXX or MAXX HD that I'll have to do the same thing BUT it won't be the same. It will be a fresh phone.

In my crazy mind that's different to me. I might end up doing it but I'll call Verizon first and see what they offer me as a solution. I normally try to do this myself but they have been treating me really well as of late and I think my luck with that is going to fair better than my own options of fixes. If they stone wall me then I'll use the tool after I find a data saving program in the app store to save my stuff..

Understood. Lately, I've been FDRing or reflashing the OS so much, I've really gotten the phone setup down to a science... :)

One thing to note, if you do decide to jump off the cliff and give Matt's tool a try, while it will reflash your OS, your internal memory and your sdcard will not be affected by the update. If the Simpson's save games are on one of those two memory locations, and if they will load the old save data, then your OK. That said, I had a medication tracking program that I had to setup from scratch and it was a pain in the ...

During the test period, I also was experiencing random (and quite frequent) reboots on my stock RAZR -- despite several FDRs. Because I was part of the test (and a longtime VZW customer), Motorola replaced my device with a RAZR Maxx. After I moved my basic phone data to the Maxx, I upgraded to JB OTA and then performed an FDR before adding all my apps. Must say that the new phone is working GREAT! Obviously, the switch to a Maxx has helped, but I am getting obscene battery life -- almost 4 days! :D (I do use a battery-saving program, as discussed below.)

The new OS is smooth and fast, and I am getting no reboots.

One tip: JB and JuiceDefender ("JD") do NOT play well together! Because I still like some battery-saving control, I have switched to GreenPower ("GP"). GP is not as customizable as JD, but it is easier to set up "out of the box," and -- best of all -- it plays well with JB. This is probably because GP is updated by its developer more often than JD. (Sorry, JD!)

Bottom line, LOVE my RAZR Maxx and LOVE JB! It was worth all the headaches and frustration during the test...
