Help camera quick access

Am I missing something, or is there simply no way to get the camera to launch and bypass the lockcode screen?

I can't believe apple would have this but not samsung

Have you got a password for your device, if so then you're not going to get in from a swipe, take off the password, then, swipe down to the camera and rotate your device landscape instantly after, sorry if this isn't your problem though!

That's kind of the point of having a passcode or pattern lockscreen- to keep someone out of your phone, right?

If you could bypass the lock screen by opening the camera why have a code anyway?
Using the camera with Swipe lock screen unlocks the phone.

Exactly! And even if you could figure out a way to do it from a pattern or PIN locked screen, once in the camera app, you can get into the gallery & from there almost any other app via the sharing function....

This is a real dealbreaker for me. I currently have the Sony Xperia S with a dedicated shutter button. I have to use password protected lock screen to secure my phone in order to be able to use work email (policy). This works like a charm on the Xperia S. The shutter button opens the camera and allows me to take photos. But that's it. If I try anything else, I get to the lock screen and password is requested.
So I wanted to upgrade to a newer phone with a great camera and a shutter button, but it seems like neither Samsung nor HTC offers one. Sony does - the model Xperia ZL is not waterproof like the Xperia Z, but has the HW shutter button. But Sony has decided not to market it in Europe - at least not in Nordics.

So - am I stuck with my Xperia S?

Simple. If using the camera without unlocking the phone is a deal breaker then don't get the S3.

That's funny. But seriously our devices these days a less about the phone and other features, I don't see why on a phone that is about customizability why we can't have quick acess cameras and why people agrgue against it. Moments pass quick if you want to catch them you need instant acess to thm camera.

As long as they can't acess the gallery without code which seems like an iPhone setup what's the problem?

Anybody know a computer that makes phone calls I can carry in my pocket? O yeah that's all smart phones. Just saying

As I understand it the next version of Android for us will let your take pictures while in a phone call. 4.2.2

I'm on T-Mobile and we still have not gotten 4.1.2. We are still on 4.1.1

Actually, my work iPhone has a PIN unlock. I can access the camera, take pictures, but it does not allow sharing. Closing out the camera goes back to the lock screen. You can not access anything else, not even the gallery. I tried.

The issue is security. If you lost your phone, you probably wouldn't want someone to gain access to all your stuff simply by turning the camera app on. If bypassing your security code / pattern / whatever were that easy, then there wouldn't really be a point to having it in the first place.

When you use the camera, what actually happens is that you are using the camera app, with all its features. It would be difficult to completely separate the camera app from the rest of the system and let you use just that, especially when using the camera also gives you quick access to your gallery, files, etc. It would open up a serious vulnerability, so if you want your phone protected then you have to unlock your phone before you do ANYTHING. I for one prefer it this way.

Doesn't work that way on the iPhone. I have tried. Please use facts in your discussion instead of propaganda.

It would be nice if you could use a pattern or password for security and still have quick access to the camera by using the tap and hold then rotate phone to access camera feature, then when exiting the camera it could take you back to the lock screen
