Phone: Galaxy S2

Trying to update firmware via Kies with no success, on my laptop (Win7) the phone connects but I get the following error:

"Your devices current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies"

And on my desktop (Win7) the phone does not seem to connect and i get the following error:

"Unsupported connection mode alert, Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies. Check USB settings."

I have the latest version of Kies etc and the only option under the USB settings in my phone is 'USB Mass Storage", i also have debugging mode un checked.

I bought the phone brand new from Carphonewarehouse and have only ever updated it via Kies.

Thanks

Ultimately there isn't an upgrade for your phone/ carrier , the latest firmware showing on Sammobile is XWLPD which is still ICS 4.0.3

The firmware you have installed is actually a stock ROM and not O2 released

You have the option of manually updating to a JB stock ROM via ODIN if you wish

Cool, where can I find that info so i can check on update progress?

Also is that why i get the error message then? As the old message used to inform me that i had the latest firmware and the message i get now is that my firmware is not compatible with kies etc.

You can find firmware releases on Sammobile, I don't think you'll be able to update via kies based on the message you get but that's strange as you said you got the update via kies

The only option for you to upgrade as far as I can see is to flash a ROM yourself via ODIN

Have a look here for info

That's what prompted me to post, I've had the phone from new and have only ever updated via Kies so how is my firmware not compatible with Kies?

Went to SamMobile, searched for firmware update by entering:

Model: GT-I9100 Galaxy s ll
Product Code: CPW

And it told me I should have the latest firmware.

I notice that when I select 'UK CarphoneWarehouse CPW' it shows:

CSC - CPWLPA

But by dialling *#1234# my phone shows:

CSC - XEULPA

So looking in the list of region options it looks like i have an Irish phone?! My handset was replaced under warranty through CarphoneWarehouse so it looks like they've given me an Irish phone.

So when searching Sammobile using the Irish CSC all i get is 'No Info Found' Does that mean i'll not ever be able to update via Kies?

CSC code, as per post #2 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide, is UNITED KINGDOM. CPW is indeed, CarPhoneWarehouse. In reality, these 2 firmwares are identical in that they are both XEU.

XEU is the CSC code that your phone has installed, as per your screenshot. JB has not been released for either CSC code.

For more details of Jelly Bean releases see posts #1, #2 and #3 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide.

Thanks I have actually just been looking at that thread, SamMobile threw me as it stated UK/Ireland.

So am I right in thinking that if i want to upgrade to JellyBean I can just download the right firmware from SamMobile (say UK H3G 4.1.2) and flash it using Odin?

If thats the case and its easy enough i'll do that.

As per post #1.7 of the Dummies Guide...

#1.7. My CSC code is not eligible for JB yet but I want it now!

You do not have to wait for JB to be released for your CSC code. You can install, via PC software called Odin, any of the released stock Samsung firmwares, for your model version, shown in post #2.

(say UK H3G 4.1.2) and flash it using Odin?

H3G is the THREE network branded firmware with their apps, logos and bloatware . You might do better with a generic unbranded firmware such as the latest LSN for Nordic Countries. Please note the warning in #1.7...

This is for competent users and will void your warranty, if you have one, by flashing any firmware other than that intended for your original CSC code as well as preventing future updates through Kies or Over The Air, (OTA).

You will have to let us know your thoughts on JB! :D

The only reason I thought so was because I recognised the codes from what I have..

Jelly Bean is awesome, phone is so much quicker had has some cool features, very glad I updated as its like having a new phone.

One issue that I have (which I dont think is JB specific) is shortened battery life. I'm told that after an upgrade I should perform a factory reset, that won't wipe the new firmware will it?
