Help General questions thread/discussion (New to Android/M7?)

Moved to Android Lounge section. :)

Welcome to AF, c04u5. :)
If you have an SD card and you're pictures are saved on there then no it shouldn't especially if you check a box when you're about to to not delete contents on the SD card. You could always safely unmount the SD card to remove it in case you're not sure and want to be on the safe side. :)

Just got my HTC One yesterday and on the whole I really like it, however I have a couple of issues that hopefully someone on here might be able to help me with ??

Is it possible to have a full settings shortcut on any of my screens ?
Whenever I try to add this like I have done on previous phones it's asking me to be more specific and choose an option out of the settings menu rather than letting me have the settings shortcut in general.

Is it possible to knock off the options bar from the bottom of Facebook and Twitter ?
Before deciding on the HTC One I was really looking forward to going from the 4.8" screen of my S3 to a 5". Then because I wasn't impressed with the S4 it was a straight choice between the Xperia Z and the HTC One.
In all honesty that would have been a no brainer had The One packed a 5" screen, which was one of the only things that was putting me off.
With this options bar in place at the bottom of the screen on both apps it makes the viewing of both apps around 3.5" which I'm really disappointed with :(

Can I make the battery indicate show the percentage in the notification bar or do I have to download another app ?

Also I've been having music player issues. I spend a lot of time flicking through radio shows and mixes that I've downloaded, something I've never had a problem with on any other phone I've had.....until this.
When I'm flicking the progress bar to skip forward the music stops playing forcing me to mess about with it to get it started again.
Then the music player keeps freezing but with the music still playing, when it does this I'm unable to pause or change tracks.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do, if anything, to fix it ?

Whilst on the subject of the music player any music that was listed as "unknown artist" download some track art which for some reason is Diana Ross ffs lol. How do I stop it doing this and is it possible to remove this artwork from the 20 or so mixes that it's associated itself with ?

Thanks in advance

i can't answer all your queries but I can answer some of them.

On the settings shortcut issue, just add in Settings as an app rather than as a shortcut. That way it opens the full settings menu not a submenu.

There isn't a way to add in the battery percentage but a lot of us use Gsam from the app store as it gives really detailed info on battery use. The Battery Life thread has loads of screenshots from it for reference. That app has multiple options for battery percentage in the status bar.

You can stop the Music player from adding artist photos or album art by going to music Player > Options > Top two tickboxes.

I went through that bottom bar reducing screen area frustration with my One X.

I rooted and went with a rom that remapped the buttons and got rid of that bar, problem solved. If rooting is for you, I believe that we list a rom that does that in our root forum. Makes long-press on the back button the new menu button as memory serves.

PS - it's actually called the overflow button rather than the menu button by Google, but a rose is a rose, ok.

Check out HTC Transfer Tool in the Play Store. It helps transfer all your old info from your old Android to the One. I am not positive but it should transfer your email accounts.

The new HTC One - Move stuff from an old Android phone to a new one - YouTube

Got the phone and ran the transfer function.

Wouldn't transfer the contacts or e-mail accounts. It did transfer sms, photos, calender and bookmarks.

i should add that I used MyBackUp Pro which was not a good experience, unless I did not use it correctly. I thought when I backed up the apps that it would back up history held in those apps like game scores, notes etc. Especially my splash ID app which had my passwords stored in it. But unfortunately not. Even then I couldn't restore more than a couple of apps at a time or it wiuld lose connection standing beside the router.

Hi guys - absolutely loving the HTC one, but I've got a couple of things I need help with having moved from iOS.

On the HTC email app, it keeps reverting to 'all email' folder when I come in and out of the app. For example, I will get an unread notification, read the email or delete it from the inbox, and come out the app (when in the inbox). And when I re-open the app, it takes me to the all email view so I can see every email including ones in the trash.

The other niggle I have is that being OCD - I've noticed that the silver bezel at the top of the phone (where the speaker is) has got a slight gap between it and the white bezel that surrounds the phone. Has anyone else noticed this on their phone. The rest of the bezel around the phone is completely gap free and flush. It's not impairing use of the phone or anything - more just a slight irritant at this stage. I'll try and post a photo later as the HTC is my only camera available just now!

May will try and head along to the 3 store and see what they say to it.

That's what I thought I'd be able to do, but can't see it anywhere in my settings? If it's worth mentioning I'm using my icloud email (me. Com).

These are my two screens. Is it because I've got all folders set to sync?

It's set to inbox at the moment, but it I was to go out of mail, get a new email and delete or whatever it randomly goes to the all messages view and I have to manually set it back to inbox only.

So, it's doing that on just normal email work then?

Yeah - that's a new bug, I've not seen that on Sense 1, 2, 3, 3.5 or 4.

Best thing is to contact HTC and let them know - please keep us all posted on that. :(

Do you think it will be possible to unlock a Sprint ONE?

If so, will it work in Europe assuming I get a local sim?

(are GSM capabilities in proper bands available if appropriate sim is installed and phone is unlocked?)

Are Ones in black available?

Does anyone have a quote or info from HTC regarding cost to change out battery? (I'm thinking 2 yrs. away here.)

1) I assume Sprint will stick to it's policy of having to be on Sprint for X amount of time before they will unlock the SIM. They mention in the Get Started Guide that in order to activate the Worldwide Service you must first at least have run some Sprint Data.
2) It has GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz and UMTS 850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz. LTE will not work in Europe no matter what.
3) Black Ones are not available for order yet
4) No quotes on swapping out the battery but based on iFixIts tear down it doesn't look like it is a simple process, if possible at all.

Hi guys, I wonder if you could help. I have just got my HTC ONE and after a few hours I've sorted my people app and have it how i want. All the people I have the mobile number of with their Facebook photo as their pic in my phone. simple.

Now I've gone into create a group of people in messages however when I go to add people from contacts the list has ALL of my facebok contacts and hundreds of random e-mails that I've used over the years. WHY ARE THEY THERE? its so f annoying. I just can't understand why anyone would want their contacts looking that that jumble of crap.
