Help HTC One Insurance/Warranty discussion

Does anyone know what the warranty period is for the HTC One in the US? Most of the time it says "limited warranty". Is battery failure covered under the warranty? I am asking because of the known difficulty in opening up and repairing/replacing a component like the battery in the HTC One.

HTC will repair or replace the unit if a hardware element fails. They have the option of replacing it with a "functional" unit, ie a reconditioned phone. The replacement warranty is good for the original warranty time or 3 months from the time of replacement, whichever is longer.

I realize this is a little off topic, but do any of you have insurance on your phone's? I saw an article that mentioned Worth Ave. Group, has anyone here ever used their service ? Square Trade wants ($125 - 30%) $95 plus $99 deductible... is this the best deal going ?

any thoughts

I have never had insurance on a phone before, but due to various issues we've had with our 3VO's, my wife and I are going to get some for our One's. We're getting the phones thru Best Buy and it seems that they have the best deal. $179 up front for two years, no deductible, AND you get $50 EXTRA on your trade for next time. So, you can figure its a bit more than $5/mo. Lumped in with the cost of the phone and get BB's 18 mo free financing... :D

+1 for best buy's GSP. Its good because it covers EVERYTHING. Including water damage. Just make sure you do not lose it. They wont cover loss/theft. The other sticky point is that that you HAVE to buy it through best buy. If you got it through other means (Carrier, radio shack, ect.) they will not allow you to buy it. It is a great service though. I work for best buy and thats one of the few things I believe is actually worth the price.

You can pay monthly aswell if you want. $9.99 per month taken out of a credit card.

Sucks for me, even as an employee I can not get the insurance since Im getting my one directly from HTC.

I know dollars and pounds aren't comparable but that seems quite a lot to me for just the phone. For

I'm getting the insurance through ATT. $9/month and seems to cover everything including water damage and there's no commitment. Though, once I get the phone, I'll go through the coverage points thoroughly.

If you do break it, and need to have it replaced, it costs $200. It's a deductible, so once you pay it, I don't think you have to pay it again during that year. You can have 2 claims per 12 months. That's what I was told today by an AT&T rep.

Another one for BEST BUY.

Not sure when this changed,(months,...years perhaps,...IDK),but,BEST BUY has a 14 DAY window to opt for coverage.I think @ one time it was 30 days from date of purchase.

I'm delaying buying it until I actually take delivery of the ONE,being careful to not exceed the 14 DAY window,as I'm not sure if the stipulation applies to date of purchase,or,actual delivery/phone-in-hand.

This may seem pointless, but,I'm just trying to maximize the coverage period for every day that I'm entitled to.

I'll drop by BEST BUY tomorrow to get the details.

I could have sworn it was 5 or 6 dollars per month...

And just to clarify, best buy you can drop at any time as well.

Does anyone else know of other outlets for insurance. I want something close to best buy's (No deductible, unlimited claims ect.) where I can just add it even if I did not buy the phone from them.

I BELIEVE its 14 days from the purchase date as thats what shows up on the order form/best buy receipt. I know its 14 days regardless. But best buy is cool, if you get the insurance through the monthly cost (9.99), if you drop it within the first month, you get refunded the 10 bucks. If you go the 169.99 route (full 2 year coverage) you can also opt out early and receive a prorated refund.

So if you pay for 1 year (roughly 85 dollars) and decide to bail, you get refunded 85 dollars. Or at least that is my understanding. I know we went through a HUGE reform in our return policy (Stupid if you ask me) and some of the details I just cant keep up with. But as far as I know, that is still the plan.

It wouldn't hurt to call them any way :)

Well I got the One from AT&T so Best Buy is out.
So That leaves Protect Your Bubble - Cell Phone Insurance, iPhone Insurance, Pet, Travel & Rental Car Insurance
or Cell Phone Insurance - Cell Phone Warranty - Cellphone Insurance
or Worth Ave Group | Cell Phone Insurance
I need to make a decision this week ...lol

I went with the - Worth Ave Group | Cell Phone Insurance
$118 for 2 years coverage ( Use code 15OFF @ checkout ) with a $50 Deductible.

FWIW, I did go with the ATT insurance for now. I confirmed the $200 deductible with them. Also, if you put in more than 4 claims per year, they cancel your insurance. Also, you cannot file a claim in store and get a new phone from them. It all has to be done through their site or phone and a new phone gets shipped to you within 1-2 business days. They also have a free "find my phone" app, that they say is part of the insurance. Also, a separate tech support line.

:hmmmm2:
I really don't know about this, I've never purchased insurance on my phones before...I just can't see myself insuring a phone.
Yes I know it's a pricey device and all but so is my drum kit but I don't slap insurance on that, granted yeah I don't lug it around with me all day with chance of losing it but I don't know I think I'm answering my own question here hehe :stupido2:

Meh, phone insurance is a waste of money (experts agree with me here btw), buy a decent case, use screen protectors, common sense, oh, and save that money you would have spent on the insurance. IF your phone breaks outside of the warrantee period, or if the damage is not covered by the warrantee, go on craigslist and find a replacement, it won't be too horribly expensive and you already have some money put away. After a few phone cycles, if you don't use it, you will have enough money saved up to buy a completely new version of whatever phone you have.

Hi sparkydaz, and welcome to AF :)

Warranty periods depend on where you are. All phones sold in the EU have a 2 year warranty (grey imports excepted), whereas in the States it's usually 1 year (I don't know whether the One is different).

In general you should check the terms where you are (not aimed at you, just general advice for anyone reading).

The One is not different, it is the standard 12 months in the US /24 in the EU.

The best deal was "personal articles" policy thru my regular State Farm, but, they don't cover phones any more because too many morons were "accidentally" dropping their phone in the toilet, or out the car window, or whatever, whenever they wanted a new phone. The other insurance is too much a rip off, so, I take the attitude, that if I take good care of it, and have to replace a damaged or lost phone every 5 years or so out of pocket I'm probably still ahead of what I'd paid for insurance over all those years.

The last time I had a phone die, while still in contract was a flip phone, maybe 8 or 9 years ago, so, guess I'm not doing too bad.
