I only use FoxFi rarely, I had not used it since the end of September.
Yesterday I tried to use it and received a message that this version is no longer supported please upgrade.
I went to play store and could not find the app anymore.
I found that AT&T and Sprint have blocked it from the play store, in order to install the new version you need to go to the FoxFi site, there is a link to download the APK. After downloading go to your download folder and tap on the file, it will install.
I tested the new APP and it works fine with my ASUS transformer 101.

Just a FYI. I used the free version and then paid version and really liked it. Once I rooted my phone and changed the ROM I found I no longer needed it. The HotSpot is available through the phone settings.
What added features do you get using FoxFi?

FoxFi AddOn provides some optional features to the FoxFi application.

*FoxFi enables free WiFi Tether on your phone without rooting or a tether plan. Sprint and AT&T have removed FoxFi from Android Play Store. So if you could not find FoxFi in Play Store then please install or upgrade FoxFi from http://foxfi.com/bin, or scan the QR code in the third screenshot.

This version of FoxFi AddOn implements
1. Notifications of WiFi client connections.
2. A Web Proxy server on the phone that can be used to hide tether usage.
3. Debug log sending.

This FoxFi AddOn app is completely optional. Depending on which phone and carrier you have, it may or may not produce any benefit for FoxFi usage.

Once installed, use the menu in FoxFi to access AddOn features. Requires FoxFi version 1.90 or above.

I saw that my rom (an IHO variant) already had USB tethering included.
It was simply a matter of getting the right drivers for my computer, and then it works just fine.

Never had to install anything on my ASUS tab, just start FoxFi and connect the tab to the phone.

As far as I know no, but with anything if you abuse it they may suspect you are tethering. Like I mentioned I only use it when I have no other option so I only use it a few times in a month and then only for a short time. I have been using it for over a year and no problems yet.

Virgin Mobile now allows hotspot usage. They have two phones right now that they advertise with that capability. My 2.2.1 came with this capability.

I have now been using it everyday since almost 3 months ago with no problems (conscience is clean as well).

only if your doing USB or bluetooth tethering, use wifi, and yes the free version must be restarted every so often. if you want it to run 24/7 on its own you gotta pay.



And Ive been using foxfi near 24/7 for over a year, using 5-6GB every month on a $25 plan to boot and Virgin never has said a peep.

My understanding (and I hate that I'm replying to an assumption with my own assumption) is that there are a variety of values in the IP protocol which can indicate the differences between browsing on your phone vs. using an external browser. Certainly it's plausible that if they wanted to go to the effort they could determine for sure, without violating your privacy.

As a simplified example any website can determine what browser you are using. If you're using a version of a browser which is not available on the phone, you must be tethering.

I suspect (again this is speculation) that it's a matter of how much you tether. If you're constantly tethering and using lots of bandwidth there's little doubt that they're going to contact you and tell you to stop or else. Or try to convince/coerce you to pay for a data plan. If you're just using it on occasion they'll (probably) let it slide, just like supermarkets turning a blind eye if you sample the grapes.

This is all speculation on my part, but I _am_ fairly certain that a carrier can tell when you're tethering vs. using the phone's browser.
