Help HTC ONE battery discussion (usage, charging, etc.)

Day One: With 6 hours of heavy use it was at 22% (right out of the box without being fully charged)

Day two: 12 hours heavy use (15%)

Day three: 13 hours with heavy use (15%)

Day four: 13 hours with heavy use (22%)

I'm sensing a strange pattern here.

My rundown of Heavy Use: GPS ON, Mobile Data On, WiFi On, Strava or workout app on for extended periods of time while streaming Google Music, Pandora, or Soundcloud. Messaging, Google Talk, Visiting multiple social networks in succession in quick burst (5-10 minutes each). 2-5 phone calls ranging from speaker phone or headset (5 minutes each). Google Search.

Interesting...

I have noticed that the battery saver definitely helps but it is having one side effect...
All data connections die within a minute of screen off.
Even streams... they disconnect and cannot reconnect.
When I turn the screen back on they reconnect.

I have killed the power saver feature so now I get to see how long it lasts without it.

An hour of checking my phone periodically and almost no usage other than checking facebook for 5 mins, checking my settings, and ive lost 8% battery life. Time to call HTC?

Provided you've determined that no single downloaded application is causing the battery drain,I'd say yes,a call is in order.

Regarding your previous post regarding warranty servicing:

And I don't know if I can return it, I don't think it falls under the warranty and HTC would probably blame me anyways.

I'm at a loss as to why you may feel this way.I'm sure if you state your case as you have here,HTC will be more than eager to honor the warranty.

You'll never know unless you give them the opportunity to do so.

Sprint Product Ambassador here, supporting the launch of the HTC One for Sprint, I finally got to give my phone a full day of use since I picked it up Thursday.

Hey, Thanks for joining up and giving us your info/review.

So I know you probably are not privy to this info, but it is worth a shot anyway... ;)
Do you have any idea or inclination about when the release of Sprint's HTC One clad in Black will be? Sprint's Evo 4G LTE Black release -> White release was approx. 6 weeks. Will The One be over or under 6 weeks?
Further, do you have any clue or heard any rumblings about if/when Sprint may possibly get the 64GB HTC One? I'm hoping ATT's exclusivity is temporary.

Depending on your situation - if you bought it from a shop or carrier store, contact them, they may just swap it out with a new one (typically the case), otherwise, contact HTC. Pretty sure you already mentioned which applies to you, sorry I forgot, I follow a lot of issue threads.

Let them know up front that you've uninstalled things and gave it a fair shot to settle in but it's just defective.

Please let us know who you bought it from, who you talk to and what their response is. I'll wish you luck but I bet you won't need it.

Ok, battery life was just ok on day one. I posted how much battery I had left after the first day already. Day two and three saw marked improvement with the phone going 16 hours with 20% or so left. But now, I have been off the charger for 6 hours and 9 minutes and only used 14%. That is crazy good. Wonder why battery life is improving? Maybe I am messing with it a little less but does the phone learn how you use it?

Not sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it did though. I think it's more to do with the fact that on day one you are downloading and setting up and everything is pretty battery intensive. As the days go on, you start to use the phone more like you normally do (for the most part).

I've been getting exceptional battery life and my last charge saw me get 3 days 21 hours out of one charge with 2 hours 51 minutes screen on. I totally didn't get a screenshot though as I turned the phone off. Then again, hopefully my previous battery posts including screenshots will go some way to assuring people that I am actually getting the epic life from my battery that I state.

As stated earlier, yes. :)

The phone autocalibrates battery on reboot. Life improves after the first few full charge cycles, usually at least a few days.

And I think that we all tell ourselves we'll go easy at first but instead go hard checking options and apps. I surely do. :D

My Battery life over the weekend was phenomenal. Today it seems to be draining pretty quickly. Been unplugged for 7:55:41 with 1:56:47 of screen time and I am at 37% left. GSam has it being help awake for 2:28:14.

GSAM, hoover (lower left), drop down at top of next screen to see which apps are waking it the most and for how long.

Graph, from the main screen, does landscape and reverse pinch to zoom, check for signal or temperature issues at points where power drops seem wrong.

Hope this helps! :)

Yeah I looked through it and it is the Android Kernel that is using up the Battery 31.4% and exempting it awake for close to 40 minutes followed by the Android System at 8.2% and awake for 8 minutes. Maps keeps waking it up (38 minutes) but it is only 2.2% usage. I am just going to keep everything as is for a week or so and keep an eye on the battery life.

That's the best thing to do. Get a few stable charges under your belt and see if it improves then if not, start the systematic tracking down of the rogue apps :D

I am down to 12% with not much use of the past couple hours. My gut is telling me that it is an App draining my battery. Still going to ride it out but I see a hard reset in my future.

Do you have a mediaserver wakelock by the way? That caught me off guard yesterday and was doing 50% of the battery draining on my phone. I don't know why, but it can get hectic. I still have it wakelocking but it is at 2.2% with 36 wake locks and keep awake at 11m 16s.

Yes but it is well under 2% and only a few minutes. I do have quite a few things continuously waking my phone up though.

Ok, so am I putting two and two together and sensing a pattern to this thread? Our brothers overseas seem to be getting days and days out of one charge, but here in the USA, folks are getting hours, not days. Is this an LTE thing? If I were to get the battery life of Scoot or Crafty, I would be lovin life!

I was getting the same amazing battery life as Scoot and Crafty and I'm also in the UK. However, I had to return my Silver HTC One 2 weeks ago due to BoomSound speakers making a weird 'popping' sound during video playback and my mics just going dead during calls and video recording.

Anyway, Phones4U eventually managed to change my device when they had stock and graciously gave me a black One as that was actually what I initially ordered but changed to the silver as black was delayed at the time. Immediately I've noticed that my once awesome battery life I had experienced on the silver has not been carried over onto the black.

I've had it for two weeks now and average on 13 hours with 2-3 hours screen time which is NOTHING compared to my previous 30+ hours with 8+ hours screen on time. This is concerning especially for the fact that my usage has dropped compared to how much I used the Silver. I was playing around on the Silver non stop as you can see in my previous battery screenshot posts, I was also streaming loads of video and using the camera very heavily as I had family over at the time and we were constantly going to events.

I have contacted Phones4U again describing my concerns but they want me to perform the HTC battery test using the HTC on phone diagnostics software. If anyone wants to do this you simply open your dialler and hit...
"*#*#3424#*#*" excluding the "" of course. Also bare in mind your battery has to be at least 70% I think, so I have to phone them back when my phones charged to that level.

Will post back when there's an update on the situation

Ok, so I was just able to receive my HTC one yesterday due to UPS issues. I had been using the phone and everything seemed to be fine, I even had fully charged it before using yesterday. However, the phone had completely died overnight which seemed strange as it had around 24% when I went to bed, and my OG EVO 4G had even less battery and still had juice left this morning.

Now the issue I am having is that my HTC one doesn't seem to be charging when I plugged it in, and I have tried 3 different chargers. Does this sound like an issue with the battery, and should I take it into a sprint store to see if they will replace it?

If you've ruled out the power source (wall outlet, power strip,etc..) as the culprit,I'd say you've done your due diligence. Take it to your local SPRINT store for further troubleshooting. Please keep us posted on your progress/results.

Here's to hoping you have a positive outcome &.............................

Try a battery test or charger test using the method I posted above. It would be interesting to see if the software actually recognises a fault.

Just dial *#*#3424#*#*

So I just got back from the sprint store. They first said that with removable batteries that it will go into sleep mode if the battery is left running down to a few %'s, and that I would need to trickle charge the phone for 20 min's to get it back running. Wasn't too sure about that, however they attempted it and deemed the phone defective. Only problem is that the four sprint stores in my location are all sold out. Now I have to wait for Sprint to send me another one via UPS, so hopefully when the new one arrives it won't have any issues.

Although for the one day I was able to use the phone, I absolutely loved it.

So we are three for three with you UK brothers and awesome 1+ days of battery life, yet the US based users who have been reporting in are not even getting a day. I was hoping one of our radio experts would chime in on this, but it seems to me that this must be radio related.
