How Time Flies

So Frisco must not be around anymore then:rolleyes:

Ohhhh...that's just sooooo...not far from the truth. ;)

Hello Eris users (and former Eris users ;)). I just thought I'd drop in to make my 10,000th post here where I started at Android Forums.

Speaking of...I wonder why he didn't make his 20,000 post here.

How odd; it's been many months since I've checked the Eris forums with such frequency, and this is basically (but not entirely) the only thread that is getting new posts. I essentially come back for this thread. Seems a rational conclusion is the "Eris Crowd" are some pretty cool folks. Got me to thinking: For the folks that spend time around here; are there similar threads in all other older device forums? Or are we just tight-knit like that? Just wondered.

*edit* I've also noticed, since not being around AF nearly as often...I get suspended much less frequently.

Found my Eris' new purpose after a full year of not using it as my phone. Its now my dash cam. Flashed a Gingerbread ROM, installed Dailyroads, stripped a lot of unnecessary apps like Gmail, Calendar and such.

Recorded for a near hour straight without any problem. A little low res, being only 320 x 240, but oh well. I'm not complaining, and if anything that means a whole hour of video with audio at about 15 fps only takes 150 MB.

Here, have a tree trimmer doing a martial arts pose.

I think the lens was a little dirty, so it looks a little hazy. I also need to position the phone better so don't see the mounting arm and see less wiper.

That's a great idea, Demache!

What did you use to mount it?

Amazon.com: Arkon Weighted Friction Dash Mount for Universal Phone, Smartphone and PDA-Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

I originally bought this for my Galaxy Nexus. However, I don't really use it all that often. So I used this. With one caveat.

The Eris, is a little too small even on its smallest setting. So what do I do?

I use a glove to fill in the extra space. It works surprisingly well. Also here's a sample video for what to expect. Not amazing quality, but audio is halfway decent considering my *very* noisy car at ~70 MPH. Note, the podcast I'm listening has some -less than professional- language, so be aware if your offended by that or have children around.

Also turn on Closed Captioning. Its sort of neat what the app does with the subtitles. Realtime speed, time and location readout.

I think that is the best use for a retired Eris I have seen yet! Cool video, thank you for sharing!

Even better yet, its doing it all on the battery. I can't find my miniUSB car charger :p. Going by the battery drain, it could record for 2.5-3 hours on one charge. Good enough for me since I rarely drive longer than that at a time.

That's fairly impressive considering its the stock 3 year old battery, with GPS, the LCD, and QVGA video recording (likely pushing it to the limit).

I just hope that you don't record any meteorites smashing into the ground nearby.

Unfortunately, I'm not Russian so my drives won't be nearly as eventful.

Also does Android Forums look incredibly messed up for anyone else? It seems like the style sheet or something got really corrupted, and my Avast keeps blocking a url on this page from "creditgif.com" or something like that.

I checked it in IE10 so its not just Firefox anyway.

Just showed up like that for me too. Just now. Weird. Running Firefox on Mint

Hmm, seems to be normal now.

Roadcam - Car videos

I won't lie, this is probably my favorite subreddit ever. Probably sound sick because of that, but its true. Probably because I find car crashes so interesting to watch.

Most of them are amusing since they are so stupid or because how people react, but some are really, really cringeworthy and aren't for the faint of heart. Like some of them are obviously fatal accidents (the ones marked NSFW are usually the worst, and you can probably imagine why).

Yeah, I used to like that kind of video. The funny ones I like, but serious injury and death in videos makes me sad. Ever since I started working in an E.R. and actually seeing those people and their families, it's "too real".

I don't even like seeing the video of the cows spilling out of the truck anymore.

But I do love steak! :D

I think John Stewart said it best, " not even Russian cows care". When they just get up and walk away it's just lol.
