Root [International] Anyone come from a Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 4 (or AOSP)?

My only Android experience has been pure Android on Nexus devices (not including briefly playing with friend's Moto, Samsungs and HTCs).

I'm currently on a N4 and contemplating getting the One. Having never even seen it in person, I'm sold on the hardware.
It's the software I'm worried about. I am running custom AOSP ROMs and kernels based on 4.2.2 but mostly keeping it close to stock.

How has the adjustment to Sense and Blinkfeed been?

I do not have the one, but the evo 3d. I have been running aosp jellybean 4.2.2 and have to say I do not miss sense at all. I have been contemplating the Nexus 4 as my next device because I love the stock android jb and can't fathom being locked into sense again.

You can see that the All Things Root section is pretty small for this device and it sounds like s-off is unavailable. If I were you, I'd be worried about getting stuck with a phone that has limited development. What if you hate sense? You may not have a 4.2.2 aosp rom available.

Just something you might want to consider/research a little before jumping ship

Remember that you don't have to use the Sense launcher, in which case you also don't have Blinkfeed.

Given how new the phone is there are a few ROMs available already (all Sense based so far), and I'd be surprised if there isn't a lot more development. And while there

i'm not worried so much about being stuck with sense, if sense 5.0 is livable with.
that's the question, coming from someone who is used to AOSP.
i've read varying opinions, but most have said it's not horrible which I guess is a backhanded compliment.

I'd advise going into a shop and playing.

But any change in UI often feels worse at first, since you notice the things that don't work the way you are used to immediately, while it takes time to appreciate things that may be better, or simply different. At least that was my experience going from Sense to AOSP (a long time ago). So it's good to ask this question, and I'd suggest reading some of the impressions, fixes, tips and tricks posted in this forum first so it doesn't seem completely unfamiliar.

I came from an S2 on a pure aosp rom and I found Sense to be a bit horrible. I've had the phone a few weeks now and though I'm getting used to it, i will definitely be flashing the first aosp rom that becomes available.

I wouldn't let it stop you getting the phone but I will say that there will be frustrating moments with the UI. The dialer especially.

I have the N4 and I use to have HTC 4G LTE and HTC One S.

I seem to like the bare Android and all I use is Nova Launcher (5 x 6 pure icon) and TeslaUnread plug in and the native Hotspot work! No need to install Wifi tether. Its already unlock.

The joy of not having to root, do Hboot and install cook ROM is somewhat of a joy and less of a headache.

Plus Tmo does not know my IMEI.

If you connect to TMo they know your IMEI. Where/whether they keep a record I can't say, but the network knows the IMEI of a device that connects to it - how could they bar an IMEI otherwise?

Will they go as far as locking that IMEI if your phone is stolen?

I am still debating if I want to get this phone or just stick with N4. I am in no hurry.

You need people with experience of TMo to answer that.

I keep a record of my IMEI myself. If my phone were stolen I'd report it and it would be blocked on all UK networks, probably all EU, maybe others that cooperate. But I've read that US networks are more parochial about this.

I'd not rely on the network going to the effort of retrieving the IMEI from their db unless you bought it from them. I always keep my own record of such stuff.

And I'm not American, and don't have detailed knowledge of how US networks work. My comment was purely a technical correction - they do see the IMEI of any device you connect from.

my first "real" android was a vanilla original droid. i have since had exclusively htc devices,and pretty regularly run AOSP instead of sense on each one

sense 4 change my mind about sense,to an extent... sense 4 is pretty,for lack of a better description,only thing i dislike is the roms large,redixuloua footprint in memory,as i still do not use any sense widgets(with exception of flipclock). while visually its not objectionable its got alot of features i personally dont need.

before cm10.1 on my rezound,i ran a simple desensed stock-add nova or apex lanucher and you can delete htc sense. you can delete the ime keyboard,wallpapers,and a ton of other sense-related things to reduce the footprint and make the rom feel more "aosp like"

sense 5,IMO is a step backwards. its not nearly as visually pleasing as sense 4,the keyboard sucks,you cant change out things on the launcher,and then thers blinkfeed-wich i currently keep hid all the way to the left wanting to keep the stock camera and beats/boomsound ill prolly end up desensing a stock rom to make it more tolerable.

i guess i should also say that the one is my "play" phone- i take the rezound to work,and use the one in the evenings. so i actually dont have to deal with sense 100% of the time.

this is an amazing phone. its fast,buttery smooth,sounds completely awsome! the display is awsome.any reservations about software id put aside,youll be able to change it. cm 10.1 is booting and working,its a matter of time before its good enuff for you to use if you can do without some sense components(like camera). there are a couple unofficial cm 10.1/AOKP builds here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2120

Yes.
The IMEI blacklist between AT&T and T-Mobile is up and running.

I came to the One from a N4.
Also had a Galaxy Nexus....
I miss a lot of things about stock Android, not so much the device itself.
I was happy with AOSP and I am not sure that I would be happy with AOSP on the One... I think it's okay.
