Have been using Swype for years, first with HTC Desire and then came pre-installed on my Galaxy Note 1. I have downloaded the trial version and am trying to work out any differences between that and the pre-installed version. So far I have found that if "pecking" it shows a popup of the letter you typed (that may be enough for me to pay the 65p!) but are there any other obvious ones?
Also, is there a way to add shortcuts? I am trying to add my email address and it will only let me add the bit prior to the @ through the normal route when it asks you if you want to add a word to your dictionary?

Bought it today for S3 having had it previously for S2. Using it now and prefer it to swiftkey What I like is that when you swipe a word it shows alternatives above, allowing you to choose the correct word if necessary, whereas swiftkey showed its prediction for possible next word. Swypes option is preferable to me. For 65pence in UK it is well worth a shot.

I had that problem. Figured out you had to type it in the body, not the address field. Then you have to type a space after it, THEN it asks you if you want to add the whole address to the dictionary.

That is the reason Swype is better than SwiftKey Flow when swipe typing. With Flow, if the word isn't the one that I want, I have to try the swipe typing again and hope it selects the right word. If that doesn't work, I have to start pecking individual letters. SwiftKey's text prediction is great when trying to predict what word you are typing before you finish typing. However, after you finish typing, SwiftKey moves to the next word with its prediction. It's too late to try to change the current word.

Swype gives you alternatives after you swiped the word. If the word isn't the one that you want, usually one of the alternatives Swype provides is the correct word.

These differences between Swype and SwiftKey is what makes SwiftKey not as good when using Flow. For thumb typing, SwiftKey is better. It allows you to customise the keyboard layout and size to make it more comfortable to type. I also find that SwiftKey is a lot better at predicting the word you mean to type as typing on a touch screen is prone to a lot of errors.

I did a typing test between SwiftKey in landscape (my preferred way of typing) with Swype in portrait. I SwiftKey was faster at 22 wpm vs. Swype at 17 wpm. I was going to try it out for a full week, but based on these results, I am going back to SwiftKey. I can't ignore the fact that SwiftKey is 20% faster even though Swype is actually more fun.

I will be keeping Swype on my phone. Sometimes, I use my phone while lying down. When I do this, I have to turn auto-rotate off, so my phone is in portrait. If I have to type in portrait, I will use Swype.

Odd, works for me. I type xxxx@ (and it does ask to add to dictionary), but if I keep typing xxxx@xxxx.com adding a space after the .com, and spelling out the .com (not using the .com button), it asks to add the whole email. If you use the .com button it leaves off the .com when adding. Real strange, but once you figure out it does work. But may be device dependent.

Thanks, Tcat007, for the answer but it is when I am typing in the main field that it doesn't let me add my email address. As soon as I've typed the first part before the @ it offers to add it but as I keep tying it doesn't offer any more.

Woohoo, done it! I hadn't noticed that you had said to put a space in after the .com. When I did that, it worked. Thanks, that had been bugging me for ages. I am still wondering though whether it's possible to enter a shortcut like I have (dare I say it!) on my iPad. On there I type my 3 initials and my email address comes up?
