How to get my NE2 discount?

I'm hoping someone can help me find the right thing to say to VZW customer service to get my NE2 discount moved up.

I'm planning to replace my f'ed up LG Dare (with no data package), with the Incredible. Seeing as VZW will then be making an additional $30 a month off of me with the required unlimited data package, I figured I should be able to persuade them to adjust my New Every 2 discount. The problem is, it doesn't come up until 30 August. 4 months is apparently too long for the first rep to consider changing it. Any ideas how to get customer service to agree to move it? Or am I just out of luck?

Your pretty much SOL, if it was a couple of weeks you'd probably be able to, but that far out, maybe 1% chance. VZW doesn't care if there making more a month out of you. In the end, they know if you really want that new phone you'll pay the price that is set for you to pay or wait for you to pay a smaller price down the road or possibly more money on an even 'better phone'.

Keep in mind you have a better chance asking in person then over the phone, if VZW works like AT&T which I'm sure they do, they document every call in there log for the customer that called in reference to what they called about. So it wouldn't surprise me if you called again the next rep looked at the call log, the reason I know this is because a friend has tried getting a new phone earlier then when her contract was up with AT&T for months with no luck.

It's possible, but not likely. Good luck!

I haven't tried this yet, but I want the Incredible.

My pitch to VZW will be.

Let me upgrade now to the Incredible, off of the POS, gimped touch pro you sold me 1.5 years ago. If you make me wait for the full 24 months, which will be about when Sprint's EVO (4G) is coming out, it will be goodbye VZW, hello Sprint.

Any hope?

Yeah, I kinda figured that would be the case. I was really the increased ARPU would motivate them to move the date. Now I wonder what happens to my $100 discount if I pay the standard contract price next week. Do I lose it because I did a regular annual upgrade? Or does it remain intact since I didn't get a discount on this new phone. Hmmm...time to hit up a real person in a corp. store.

I'd say you've got a better chance than I do. If it matters to you, the NE2 isn't actually 24 months, it's only 20 months. So, since you may be pretty close, give it a try!

Your contract starts over the day you bought the new phone or any service that requires a change of contract.

True, but to VZW, the service contract and equipment contracts are separate. Either way, now that I think about it, IIRC, using the annual upgrade "feature" means I lose the NE2 discount as a "penalty" for not waiting the 2 years for an equipment upgrade. It's a one or the other thing -- I either get an annual upgrade at contract pricing, or I get the NE2.

Naw man, you're going to have to wait it out, give up your NE2, or buy a temporary phone. There's no way you're going to get them to move up your NE2 by 4 months.

My fault on not being clear, that's what I was referring to, the service contract is separate.

In your position I would either wait and see if Apple announces in June the iPhone to be released later this year for VZW if your interested in that or take the plunge and lose your NE2 if you can afford it.

Like most of us I have been salivating over this phone for some time... following the rumors, lurking the forums etc. its been my plan all along to get this phone on release day, no question

i didnt put a whole lot of specific forethought into it, however, and im not in a position to spend $600 right now

a couple weeks ago i wandered in to a corporate store, and asked the rep there to tell me what i might be eligible in terms of upgrades. he informed me that my regularly scheduled upgrade (my NE2? im still not 100% clear on what that even means) was coming in mid june, but that they were running some sort of specific promotion during the month of april that would allow folks who are upgrading to a smartphone for the first time (as I am doing) to get the upgrade price regardless of when their scheduled date was

now that being said i have also heard here that they will sometimes give folks who are upgrading to a smartphone for the first time the upgrade price, regardless of any special promotion... but anyways...

he was dubious the incredible would come out in time, I told him the nerds on the internet (a group i no doubt belong to) were saying it would be out by the 29th. He didn't think so (lol) but assured me if I was right I could get the lower price regardless

FFW to today I just got off the phone with a sales rep, who also told me that indeed my upgrade was coming in mid june and if i wanted to buy the phone on release day i would have to pay full retail, no april promotion, no "1st time smartphone buyer" courtesy price.

maybe its wishful thinking, but im finding that hard to believe

Can anybody sort through this enough to predict what my likelihood of copping on release day for the lower price is? Is there a specific strategy I should use (phone rep vs in-store, etc)?

THANKS in advance

also, seeing as its at its EOL and presumably real cheap, I'd like to pick up an eris for the mrs. anybody want to give me any pointers regarding the cheapest way to grab one up? I heard they were hella cheap on amazon, but i dont know how that fits in with scheduled upgrades, new contracts, etc. shes not due for an upgrade any time soon, but would also be moving up to a smartphone for the first time. THANKS GUYS

This is my first post, so I'm sure that it will be taken with a grain of salt (or an entire shaker) but my wife and I both have BB 8330's on VZW with a contract date in mid-December (and a NE2 date in mid-August) with mine as the primary. I've been eligible for an annual upgrade since December, but I am waiting for something beyond the Moto Droid.

When I logged on to my VZW tonight to pay my bill, I was surprised to see that our lines have the NE2 green line all the way to the right and the NE2 date was last week (4/9). We have a third line for the kid and his phone shows a NE2 date in August.

Keep in mind that this is not something that I asked for...I looks like it just happened.

Did the Droid gods cut me a break? Will this still be around on pre-order day?

Man, I hope so. :D

Not really sure how thats possible, only the primary line on a family plan gets a NE2, while the other lines are just eligible for the 2 year pricing.

And they always come back Road hoop. This is the worst thing you could ever say to a rep if youre trying to get help.

Call in to customer service and ask about the Smartphone promotion, see if it's still on your account. If it is, then I'm betting the sales rep you spoke with is either worthless, or at an indirect location, since they don't see those kinds of promotions. If it's on there, unless the promotion is going to expire before the 29th, you should be good to go.

As for the Eris, the rumor mill has it going EOL in May, which means it should show up around that time in the CPO lists. Certified Pre-Owned devices, which go through an extra 100-point inspection over and above the normal inspection process for refurbished phones, and are sold as new with a 1 year warranty. The price is higher than the 2 year, but does not come with a contract.

What smartphone promotion?

I just got a response from Verizon via e-mail saying that they will not move my NE2 up two months early but will give me the annual upgrade and waive the 20 dollar fee. So I am curious how some people are managing to get their NE2 moved up. Should I try again? Call this time? I almost want to tell her that the thirty dollars will be paid back to them by the time my current NE2 would be up if they let me upgrade early as I am coming from a feature phone.

I have been told a couple of times they won't move it - once by someone at a VZW store, and once by calling their customer service number.

Should I just take the twenty dollars then? She said I could have the two year price, so it would only be a thirty dollar difference. Maybe I could haggle for a discount on accessories?

Edit: Ok, just read her e-mail again and it would not be a thirty dollar difference I still have to pay the whole two year price. So not a good deal.
