In the native email app how do you save the email address from the sender? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

in the email, where your address is, there should be an arrow on the right hand side of the grey bar that has your e-dress in it. click on the down arrow, you should see the email participants. tap on the e-dress you want to save, you should see a list of options.

First of all hi I'm new to these forums. Ok now here are my questions.

I already ordered my HTC One and HTC car kit from T-Mobile yesterday and am patiently waiting for it.

I have had the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant for 3 years keeping it because I couldn't find a worthy upgrade, now I am VERY excited for a new phone. The Vibrant has been great the first year but now it just lags, is slow, force closes everything I open, keyboard lags every second, camera is very slow, I've even factory reset a couple times and the same problems occur days after reset, Facebook, Instagram, and mostly every app I use just doesn't respond at all, I've just had it.

Now question is, will this HTC One be a big upgrade for me? The last upgrade I've been on is Froyo so surely Android is much further along now. Is there still lag? Are there still problems that occur as commonly as these first gen Android devices as my Vibrant?

Second, I know that the One has some sort of transfer method but I have an old phone so I don't think it works. Will I just have to copy everything from my SD card and phone to my computer?

I also want to mention battery life, my Vibrant would go from 100% to %10 with moderate use in 2 hours, something I'm tired of.
I'm really hoping the HTC One will impress me.

your concerns/questions are proudly talked about in the above threads. the one is really a super nice device. nothing on the market currently can hold a candle to it.

spend a little time smoking over the forum and you will find a lot of info to help you transition to your new toy.

had the One since launch day.. while i like the phone.. i like the new blacked out widgets and such.. there are a few things that i really dont like..

1. i dont like the fact that Facebook has taken over my gallery.
2. i like blink feed, its all fine, i just made my home screen different
3. the menu button.. i liked where i could set one of the capacitive buttons was the menu. lose alot of screen space with the 3dot menu button
4. not very intuitive on the changing the lower buttons.. but i managed.. also.. seemed to struggle with removing apps from a folder..
5. also, not happy bout the dang wifi popup whenever i go into some apps.

1. there is no option to make the gallery similar to the way it was on my EVO LTE.

4. found a video just a few mins ago.. that showed how to add apps to the lower bar. little different.. but i managed.

I never said I had a solution to make the one behave like the htc Evo 4G LTE. different sense versions. Your post didn't suggest that you were looking for a way to have the gallery behave like an older device...

You are welcomed to root your device to gain certain functions back that you miss. There is a rooting subsection to assist you with that if interested.

I guess this can serve as my introductory thread as it's my first post on these forums. I came from the apple ecosystem, owning a iPod 1G, iPod 2G, iPhone 4, thus leading to the end of my contract; therefore I recently ordered and received my sleek new HTC One.

I have absolutely no idea how to completely take advantage of the customization provided on the Android platform, though I did jailbreak all of my past iDevices. I have a couple questions that I'd rather ask the community in real time than simply read a thread. I decided to post here instead.

What are the advantages of gaining root access to your phone?
What are some useful vanilla tweaks or apps that I can find on the google play store?
Is there a "find my iPhone" style service for Android?
Are you able to change the wallpaper for home/lockscreen separately?
What deterred you from getting other phones (iPhone 5, SG4) and made you get this?
How have you been enjoying your new HTC One?

I hope that I will continue to contribute to these forums, and hope for a good time with Android.

As for me I eventually want to root just because it's MY phone why shouldn't I have root access to my phone and all the goodies that come to rooting that I wouldn't give justice trying to explain as me being a noob in that area as well
I chose the One because it just looks freakin awesome, show stopper, I was never into iphones, I'm not sure why and now it just looks so plain compared to all the new android devices coming out and I was close to getting the S4 but all those devices look the same as well once I laid my eyes on the One I was sold and I'm loving everything about it!

Yeah, was going to wait until the SG4. Fell in love with the dual silver speakers after seeing them in an ad. Wanted something different, didn't like style of SG4, and wanted away from iPhone 5. I loved the fit and look of the iPhone 4, but can't go back after experiencing this huge yet compact screen to play with.

Don't download any app killers, or worry about apps running etc...android manages it's own memory.

Getting root is the same exact thing as getting admin access on a PC (Win, Mac or Linux). Unlike jailbreaking, you don't leave the ecosystem for another. Root isn't required to customize your phone and you can do more customizing with a stock HTC than you can a jailbroken iDevice - and then root takes it to the next level. With it you can obtain fundamental changes to Sense or abandon it. (Personally, I like Sense so I go the fundamental changes way.) Visit our rooting forums for more details (under construction/expansion starting today).

Common stock customizations - first, your browser. We have more than I can name. I recommend Boat Browser and strongly believe that it's better than stock by far.

If you'd like to experience a different home screen approach without Blinkfeed, try the Nova Launcher and its wealth of free themes. If you don't like it, uninstall it and you've harmed nothing.

For a better video playback experience, try Dice Player or MX Player. Dice is better but I find it easier to play some audio files with MX, so I use both.

Anyway, just some ideas, nothing that you _need_ to do (but you'll thank me for Boat Browser after you customize it to your tastes).

On initial setup, there should be an option to restore from Google servers (or something similar, I can't remember the exact wording, sorry). Did you notice/leave that unchecked?

Ah, ok. I seem to remember on my One X, I had to add the Google account separately. If you head to accounts menu, add a new account, select Google that should sort you. (if you've not already tried that).

sorry you're having issues fine69,

after i entered my google login and also made sure unknown sources was ticked, my apps started downloading.

in the initial setup (you can restart this) it asks you if you want to use google servers to back up or htc (the htc backup uses your free 25gb dropbox storage by the way). so if you chose htc backup this could be the reason why your apps did not immediately download.

also make sure you are logged into the correct play store account.

if you are overseas and not in the US, things could be different, but this phone behaves just as prior htc phones ive used.

Well I took a look at the programs on my other phone and noticed most of them are now included in the software, so I just redownloaded the apps. Took like 10 minutes. It's all setup.

Handcent messaging will light up the phone when a message is received.. there is a setting for it..

People weren't lieing when they said volumes for ringers and media were loud. I'm kinda missing being able to set different volume levels for notifications and ringer, seems like it is now lumped together and I prefer my notifications lower. Any ideas?

Press up or down on the volume rocker and then on the volume bar that appears click the gear. you can lower Ringtones, Music and Videos, and Alarms separately. Not sure which one notifications falls under but maybe alarms?

you can set the background to whatever you want....

also.. you can get handcent messenger from the market.. and you can make it any color you want..

In text Messaging App go into Settings and then General and scroll down to Personalize. you can change the colors around as well as add a background image if you would like. Are you talking about the Power Saving options always being in the the Pull Down area? If so, Swipe Down and then long press the Power Saver area until App Info pops up and then press that and click force stop in the next menu. It will now disappear until you restart your phone or run the battery down lower than 15%. It is just a work around. If you want it permanently gone you would probably need to Root your phone.
