Help Question on Incredible + Tethering

your gonna have to wait until someone roots the incredible to provide access over wifi like they did the droid, or until verizon/someone provides a program that does this. The later will probably incur the tethering fee from verizon. the prior will void your warranty.

I don't think verizon can actually tell you are tethering ever, at least not without closely inspecting data usage.

correct....unless you start using ridiculous bandwidth amounts. If you start downloading blu-ray movies and uploading them through a torrent client or something, they're gonna know a phone can't be doing that much work.

There is a program that makes your phone act like a router so that you can use it as Wifi. Here is a screenshot of it on my phone, one of the things that I like is that it shows how much data you've used so that you can monitor it and not go crazy. It did work with my iPod Touch so it should work with an iPad.

The downside is that to run the program you have to be rooted. The website is here android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code Keep an eye out after the phone releases as I'm sure with the specs on this thing there will be plenty of developing going on.

You don't have to root the HTC Incredible for tethering.

If you download VZAccess Manager for the Incredible, you can use the Incredible, while connect via USB (with "Mobile Broadband Connect" on), to tether.

No, it's not free, but you can turn the feature on and off at a prorated monthly rate of $25, so it's a little less than a dollar a day. Less than what hotels charge for wifi and certainly less than VZW's prepaid USB modem plans.
