Finally some real time frame.

Sprint's HTC Hero and Samsung Moment Android 2.1 updates on track for early May? -- Engadget Mobile

Oh goodie...yet another "When will 2.1 be released" speculation thread. My father's brother's friend's sister's aunt's former college roommate knows a guy who has a friend who works for sprint and they said 2.1 will be out next week. It will be placed in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and you'll have to fight an angry unicorn to get to it.

Early may can still be considered early 2nd quarter (if you split the quarter in two)..

FWIW, your negative attitude toward EVERYTHING really is getting old....

What happens when early May comes and it's still not out? sprint going to say they are skipping 2.1 and going to 2.5 and we should have it sometime in 2010? sprints excuses and lack of legitimate explanation why they never upgraded to 1.6 or 2.0 is what's really getting old...May is considerd mid Q2. sprint fails yet again.

Sprint has met EVERY deadline for 2.1 that they have announced! They said 1st half. of 2010 then early 2nd quarter (which as I explained before, it still technically is).

When the deadline is missed, feel free to complain.

The OP was trying to do us a favor and post a link most of us had already seen.

When May 15th comes and goes (starting the end of 2Q), complain away. Until then, quit taking things to the extreme about the whole 2.1 issue.

1.6 and 2.0 updates, and lack thereof, have been explained to you (and in the forums) multiple tines. Take the time to read some of those responses.

No one breaks quarters down like that, no one. It goes April-early Q2, May-mid Q2 and June-late Q2. May 1st starts mid Q2 period. Once again as Sprint did with older phones and the Instinct, they have not kept their word on updates. You keep on believing that 2.1 update will come soon though. Those of us who know Sprint's shady history with OS update promises know better though.

Okay granted, mbell has a point, but still I am one of those be in in the majority or minority (which ever way one looks at it) that feels that I rather have them go back against their word and give us a fully functional without bugs update as compared to one that is sent out in time (according to their expressed timeline) and full of bugs or worse.

So if it comes out on time, good. If it doesn't, so what. Just be patient and when it comes it comes.

My take..As we have seen posted here several times... It was planned for 4/9, but they used many of us as beta testers, (sorry spaziod) and...surprise! It isn't quite ready for prime time. The delay is so they can get a "fully functional without bugs update" (as TS so aptly put it) for us.

It'll be here soon, and it will be cool! Have patience everyone. It will be worth it!

Since when was is planned for 4/9? And how the hell did they use anyone as "Beta testers?" They didn't release a beta ROM to the public...it was leaked and a bunch of people jumped on it not thinking about what might happen. Rooting is safe but flashing a leaked RUU known to have issues...well that's just dumb.

1H of 2010...my lord some of you act like the world is going to end. Go outside.

I have always viewed it that way...

If it was defined as you define it the term is simply redundant, and the month name could be used.

I understand early and late as dividing the quarter in half, and mid (rarely used) as some shadowy date...

Early = first 1.5 months (Apr 1-May 15)
Late = last 1.5 months (May 15-Jun 30)
Mid = some nonspecific overlap of the two.

It is never used in business (that I am aware of) to be specific to a month for each term... The MBAs would be smart enough to remove the redundancy and just use months. It is a way to specify a schedule with more wiggle room than specifying a month.

I've seen it broken down that way in businesses plenty of times. Time frames really are just a reference point afterall.

In all seriousness, if you've had this many problems with Sprint, why not leave them. If they always let you down, why bother to waste time expecting anything.

If you honestly think 2.1 will never come (and your post says that is what you think), why not switch to a different carrier or phone.... Hell, why even bother clicking on anything that says 2.1 in the thread title!

momoceio, Several posters have individualy stated that they were told by someone at Sprint that 4/9 was the day...Does that mean it was fact? No! But my opinion is that was probably a date they had hoped to release it. We'll never know if that was their intent.

In re-reading my post, I see I wasn't clear... I meant to say that it wasn't an official beta test released to the public, but that I believed that they allowed a bunch of people to become unexpected beta testers by leaking it. You can be sure they are lurking in these forums and see the comments. Just leak a copy and see what results come back.

In a former life, I worked for a very large software company, so I know the difference between an official beta test, and a "leak" beta test, which we did also. Even though there is very little liability to the company for the results a user experiences when he/she beta tests a product for the company, there is some. There is absolutely NO liability when they leak it and people use it, and have issues. It's a big win for the company. Feedback and NO liability.

Auto companies release "spy" pictures of future autos to guage public reaction to possible new styles, and also fake spy shots to confuse and mislead it's competition. Many companies do this. It's business.

You said "Rooting is safe but flashing a leaked RUU known to have issues...well that's just dumb." I agree 100%.

1H of 2010...my lord some of you act like the world is going to end. Go outside. I'm not one of the ones complaining about when it will be out. I did say "It'll be here soon, and it will be cool! Have patience everyone. It will be worth it!"

momoceio, you are a credit to this forum, and I appreciate being able to discuss these things civilly! Thank you for all you do here!
