Help General questions thread/discussion (New to Android/M7?)

I believe the setting for SMS ringtone is in settings in the SMS app itself.

right... you can set a default notification sound in the system settings. then in each app you can set them as well, either specifying "default" or a specific one. Most SMS apps also let you specify a specific notification per contact as well.

Hi guys, new to HTC one and android. What's the icon for 3g connectivity etc. I have WiFi connected but when I disconnect what is the 3g symbol meant to look like. Cheers.

The 3G icon should look something like what's depicted here:

However, some slight variances have been noted in some carrier-specific models for some notification bar icons.

That's true, unless you have a carrier-branded one, in which case they will look different.

For example, the AT&T Model will say E, 4G, or 4G LTE.

I get 4G (not LTE) occaisionally at my house. Then the symbol swaps to E , but never 3G ( My Dads iPhone says 3G ). If I go to the city I get 4G LTE.

Do I have it turned off some how? I have AT&T.

No, you're fine. AT&T reports what we used to refer to as 3G (which is HSPA/HSPA+) as "4G" now (its a marketing ploy of some sort), and LTE (which is actual 4G) as "4G LTE". Edge is still "E"

The reason the iPhone reports 3G is that it's probably from back before at&t started changing their marketing (lying in my book, but that's just me) about what signal is what generation.

New to Android and HTC one. Can't see where or how to do this.

My previous phones, when an incoming call is from a number not in a contact list, would display the State, the call originated from, as in:
201-555-1212 -New Jersey,
Or with an additional app (Palm OS), would also display the city associated with the exchange:
610-555-1212 - Pennsylvania/Allentown.

Is this (popping up the the state) a setting that I've missed? Is there an app to do it? Preferably one that doesn't sniff all your incoming caller numbers...

It seems to be when I go straight to email from the notification. Will speak to HTC and report back.
I had this same issue (using Exchange Server). The only work-around I could find is to remove the Sent and Deleted folders from the Synced items. This keeps them from being automatically synced, but I can still click on those folders and pull up any idea in them. It just takes a bit longer to load, as they haven't constantly been syncing in the background. However, after doing this I no longer have the issue I had as it always just defaults to the only folder I have synced - Inbox.

Hopefully HTC has a resolution - it's inconvenient for work when I'm waiting for my Sent Items to load, as they could be hundreds per day. Not a deal-breaker as I don't do it often, but still inconvenient.

Hello all. Long time reader, however this is my first post as well as my first HTC phone. My question is two fold.

1. Is there not a way to erase all of the call history with out having to manually check a box to next to each dialed/received/missed call?

2. When done making a call, and I want to go back into the phone to make another why does it automatically load to the phone dial pad? Is there not a way to have this phone go straight to favorites or recent history?

Thank you for any help:)

1. In the stock dialer, swipe to the left to get to the call history tab. press the three dots, remove call history. Tick one of the numbers in the list, tap the three dots, select all.

2.from the phone dial pad, swipe to the right to get to the people tab.

To answer your questions:

1) Go to phone>call history & tap on the 3-dot icon in the upper right corner.Tap "remove call history. Then, tap on the 3-dot icon again & you'll see an option to "select all".Then @ the bottom of the page press "delete" & you're done

2) Go to phone & press on the 3-dot icon.Select "edit tabs".
Long press on the tab on the right side(where the 3 lines are) & hold on & arrange the tabs in the order you desire. The one in the middle should be the default view when opening up the phone.

Looks like the option to change the default screen in the phone is going to persist on opening up to the dialer.

The closest you can get to that is re-arranging the other options you desire to the left & right of the dialer.

My apologies for the misinformation.

You'll probably be able to find a dialer replacement app in the GOOGLE PLAY STORE that has a bit more flexibility,if you desire.

I myself have never cared for replacement dialers, but perhaps others who've had more experience w/such will have some suggestions.
