update available (May 7, 2013)

US only?

Not had anything on my device, just tried a manual update and it informed me that I've made too many attempts, this is the first time
And it was right, one attempt was one too many.

I have to say that I would not try installing updates willy nilly. If you carrier isn't offering the update, I would exercise caution. Fortunately, my phone doesn't seem to suffer from any noticeable lag so I can wait.

The carrier is offering the update, the only way to get the update is if the carrier is offering it. It will probably be at least 2 weeks before they send out texts telling customers its available

After browsing round the web I found that Samsung have apparently released i9505XXUAMDN firmware. So hopefully this will fix everything.

From the sources I found says its available via Kies, however mine says I currently have the latest firmware.
I also get this when I try OTA on my S4 handset.

Think its about a 1.8Gb download!!!.

Has anyone got this firmware version?

Oh yes I agree. MDM lags with great lagness
Why release an update that makes things worse!!!!

I updated the firmware right away so never did get to experience a lag free Galaxy S4. :(

Obviously it wasn't their intention to make the phone lag, I don't think the software is ready to be honest as the overall performance is not what it should be for the hardware in the phone and benchmarks are showing this.

Maybe if they focused more on optimizing the software than getting new features into the phone we wouldn't have this problem.

What is the software version on Sprint AFTER the update? My software version says L720VPUAMDC. I thought I read this was the initial software version, and NOT the updated version. If so, it must take awhile after activation before you can find the update as it says there is no update for my device.

Also assuming this is under Update Samsung Software to search for the update?

Hey, the official Sprint update ends with MDL and yes, you can use update samsung software to search for it. Try "forcing" the update if you haven't received it yet by doing the following:

Settings > Apps Management > All > google services framework > Clear Data > Force Stop

Go back to System Update > Update Samsung Software (should have a date with 1969) > Check Now

I've heard people do this repeatedly until they got the update. Worked for me this morning

Tried this and still no update. And since I can't connect my phone to my computer for some reason I can't use Kies.

It worked for me. What I had to do was after I clear data I hit OK, then I immediately hit "Force Stop" and after you immediately say OK, another popup appears for google location. DON'T ANSWER this prompt. I hit home, then went back into settings and checked for an update, and it showed the last time it checked for an update was back in 1969 or something. Once I hit search for update it found it right away.

If you come to the update screen and instead of the 1960s it says you last searched for an update today, it won't find it, and you'll need to clear data and force stop again.

After 2 tries I got it to work.

Worked, thanks! It was finicky because you have to hit force stop immediately after clearing data, but as soon as you do this if you are on the screen too long google starts popping up more boxes for location service etc. If you answer those prompts then it didn't work. But if you only answer prompts for clearing of data and force stop, and you get out of that screen quick, it worked great.

Cool! I'm really glad it worked for you too! I noticed those weird nuances about other prompts too with my wife's phone. I'm sure this technique would work with other carriers as well.

I got the date to say 1969 but it still said no update. I guess I'll have to be patient and see if it gets pushed through

Received a firmware update and let it install, no lag issues here.

What are you doing to say you're getting lag, as perhaps I'm not using the phone like you are?

I am doing nothing special, simply tapping icons on the bottom of the homescreen.

As a example if I tap the Contacts icon to launch my contacts, after tapping, the screen goes black then after about 1 second ( not exaggerating I have actually timed it) the contacts come up. This is what I mean by lag.

It is also the same on Phone Keypad/Call log Icon, My emails and the messaging Icon.

Worked like a charm on the first try. Love the phone from day 1 but ironically I don't want this phone anymore..signature if interested.

Update: There have been some significant battery improvements since the update. My office is in a poor signal area and I normally lose 15-20% of battery power in an hour. Today I was there for 4 hours and only lost 8% battery. I'd say that is a pretty good improvement. And that was with a live wallpaper, something I normally don't use.
