Help Facebook/Friends, etc. pictures in Gallery app. Can these be removed? (HTC Sense 5)

Talked to HTC U.S. customer service today.. They told me it's in part because of the integration of blink feed and they have ZERO intentions of taking it out.. So... anyone hoping for a patch/fix will be disappointed... I do not like it as well and it's actually been my only complaint about the phone. Although, I guess I will just get used to it..

Jim,
Your question falls in line with this thread.

Based on what I've read, this is a feature of the gallery app. Perhaps read though this thread for info or just use a third party photo app.

If you root your device, you can find a rom that doesn't include these standard features on this device...

hey sorry bud. Didn't see this. It's not that big of a deal. I'll live if it's there. However I bet this is something that will be addressed in an upcoming update.

Found this thread whilst googling the same problem. Love the phone overall - and most of the sense customisations - but the gallery app is extremely poorly designed. For a start, I see no way to set it up such that I see my own flickr/picasa pictures. If I click on "my photos", it just shows photos stored locally on the phone. "Friends" allows me to select from flickr or facebook friends, but not google+ friends (google+ and picasa are integrated these days, in theory, although that's a whole other story).

I don't mind the option to browse recent posts friends have made either to facebook or flickr, but I'd prefer that to be buried under some top level heading i can just ignore, rather than spammed into the main gallery opening page. I mean, as it stands, even if you click on "friends" it doesn't show you a newsfeed of the newest pictures posted by friends on the chosen services. Instead, you have to browse and select a particular friend. This seems an entirely useless feature and feels poorly thought through.

I'm a (part time) professional photographer, and often use the gallery app on my N7 to show potential clients portfolio images that i've uploaded to picasa in "visible with the link" galleries. This is a really useful feature for me, and I'd love to be able to leverage the great display of the One for the same purpose. Instead, I'm having to use 3rd party flickr/500px/picasa apps, which is no great hardship, but not as neat.

Oh and one quick point of clarification: the true "stock" gallery app in AOSP features no integration with any online photo services. It just shows pictures stored locally, presumably in a predefined "pictures" folder. The N7 gallery app, which automatically integrates with your google+/picasa pictures is google's own customisation. I know this because I run CM10.1 on my N7 and had to install googles customised gallery app from gapps to get back the picasa integration there.

EDIT: just found out how to get the gallery app to view my own flickr/picasa pictures, which is cool. After you've gone into "my photos" you might have to change the view/mode of organisation in the top left hand corner from "events" to "albums". I'm not sure why the flickr and picasa pictures don't show up in the events view - the albums on there will have creation dates and all the files have intact exif data - but perhaps it just doesn't integrate online albums in the events view. Either way, when you switch to "albums" you can then pick either picasa or flickr and browse your albums/images on those sites.

i wouldn't have mind if they consolidated all the facebook photos into a single "gallery" kinda like how they shove all your camera photos in one "gallery". its just annoying that they organized it by clumping "my camera photos" into one sum then post individual facebook photos. if i really wanted to see individual facebook photos, i would have added it to my blink feed

Has anyone found a 3rd party gallery app that supports Zoe's?

I'm sure in time the honeymoon period will be over, and I'll only take normal photos, but in the meantime I'd like a replacement gallery app without the FB pics, but would love to have it still support Zoes :)

Not yet no. I'm still looking though.

And Zoe is a silly name. I realise it comes from 'zoetrope' (creating the illusion of movement with a series of rapidly flashing pictures) but Zoe is obviously a woman's name.

I'm still holding out for a ROM that removes the FB integration.

What about a 3rd party FB app instead of the FB-branded app?

That would probably work as well, but then you'd lose FB on your Blinkfeed. Some folks are going with 3rd party gallery app, but then you'd lose the zoe movement in your gallery. So, without root, it comes down to what you'll live with, and what you can't.

This Facebook is in the system like a cancer in someone's blood. Would be nice if we had a clean uninstall option instead of just a disable or force stop. The good old days where we could install and uninstall seem like they are coming to an end. There are many people out there that do not want to sync contacts, pictures, sms messages, call logs and the whole enchilada...

Here in Asia when someone buys something using their visa card they send you a text message to your smartphone notifying you that your card was used for safety which is fine and if you withdraw money from an ATM they send you a text message notifying you that you made a withdrawal from your bank account but with Facebook having access to your messages they know how much you are withdrawing and what you are buying along with which bank you use. A major invasion of privacy if you ask me.

What these manufacturers need to do is basically make a smartphone with two flash drives where one can choose which flash drive they wish to download their applications on to and they can have all the permissions they need on that flash drive while all our personal stuff on the other flash drive is safe from them accessing it. Samsung seems to be working on something similar to this idea.

I don't like seeing it in the gallery neither so I just chose to hide the album and now I don't see it. But other than that I love this phone. Same thing as I hated on my Evos if you sync your FB contacts and just want people in your phone book synced you cant and you see all your friends. I don't sync my contacts anymore but I wish you could go to your people app and sync individual people not everyone on your friends list.

Did they change the facebook ap? In my settings I have the choice "Sync All", "Sync Contacts Only", "Remove Facebook Data".

When you say "you can see all your friends" do you mean in FaceBook or in Contacts? That setting only affect contacts it doesn't affect Facebook.

I was talking about on my past couple EVO's if I checked Sync Contacts I would see every one of my facebook friends in people which I could uncheck but then when I went to my phone dialer every one of my friends was in there and when I would go to email my boyfriend Steve for instance and punched in Steve every Steve that I was facebook friends with there emails would come up I hated it and I don't sync my facebook contacts at all. I would like just my phonebook people who have Facebook to be synced not all of my 300 and something friends synced to my phone. I don't like the gallery think neither but I chose to hide that album.

Is there maybe a way to get an older version of HTC gallery that doesn't have this included? I don't know why HTC shows such little care of their users that they have to force this upon us.

I found the solution If your rooted.

Download es file explorer, go into Settings/Tools then Root Explorer then choose uninstall a system app and delete everything related to Facebook/twitter. A few will fail but just go on.Then reboot and just download Facebook/twitter from the play store. This works.

You have to have Root and you have to have a System r/w kernel such as the roms posted in the everything root section for AT&T

I figured this would be one the first things done with root... This and de-blinkfeed Sense... Thanks!

I found the solution for mine! first log in to facebook and also the facebook app. Once your logged in go to settings/apps/facebook and disable the app, go back to the gallery and remove facebook. You will now see facebook pictures removed. Go back to settings and apps and enable facebook app once again. Open the app and you should be logged in and go to gallery and you shall not see facebook pictures!

I have the new HTC One running Sense 5 and I have noticed that the Gallery app contains all the pictures from my Facebook friends.

The only way I can get rid of them is to sign out of Facebook but that leaves a large, ugly black box called 'Friends' slap-bang in the middle of the Gallery app homescreen. Is there a way to completely remove Facebook pictures from the stock Gallery app without having to sign out of Facebook please?

I just do not want to see all the dross people post up on Facebook in anything other than the damn Facebook app itself...

hi all,

i already know how to do it!!:D

u just go to settings--> apps --> untick the notification.

so far,i don't receive any facebook updates in my gallery.

cheers!
