My (unsuccessful, laughable) Treasure Hunt for 2.1...

Okay, so here is the scoop... I was bored today, so I went to two different Verizon stores, and a Best Buy, just to ask when 2.1 would be official for the Eris... Still, I'm getting a pretty bad run-around by everyone, but here is what they told me... (laughs ensued.)

Verizon Store #1:
Salesperson - "Well, 2.1 will come out for the Eris probably at the end of this year. They haven't even really begun making the 2.1 for the Eris, so there is no way it can come out any time soon."
Me - "Lol, wut? Dude, you have no idea what you are talking about do you? The leak has been out for quite some time now and you can root it and use a custom ROM as well."
Salesperson - "Oh, well if you want to do it that way, I thought you were talking about 2.1 for the Eris, and with the Eris, you can't root it... I mean, I don't think you can."
Me - "Really? I was unaware of that..." (Shows him my rooted Eris) "I wonder how the hell this got on here then?"

Best Buy:
Me - "Any idea when the official 2.1 comes out for the Eris?"
Salesperson - "2 weeks."
Me - "Really? Do you have any literature I can see about it?"
Salesperson - "No, that's just what they have told me."
Me - "Who?"
Salesperson - "Verizon."
Me - "Verizon is a company, who at Verizon said that it was going to be out in two weeks?... I'm just trying to get an answer from someone who knows what they are talking about..."
Salesperson - "..."
Me - "...?"
Salesperson - "Uh, well yep, two weeks."
Me - "Thanks."

Verizon Store #2:
Me - "Hey, any idea when 2.1 is coming out for the Eris?"
Salesperson - "Isn't it already out? The one we have on display already has it on there... See?" (Shows me an Eris with 1.5, says it is almost the same.)
Me - "That's not 2.1, it's 1.5"
Salesperson - "No it's not, this is 2.1"
Me - (Opens up settings, shows him clearly that it is 1.5)
Salesperson - "Oh yeah, just that part isn't updated yet I guess."
Me - "What part?"
Salesperson - "The settings..."
Me - "Really? Didn't know that could happen."
Salesperson - "Yep, it's a bug that they are working on."
Me - "Are you sure?"
Salesperson - "Yep."
Me - "Okay, thanks."

So, as you can see... Obviously I wasn't speaking to the most informed employees of these fine establishments, but I thought I would tell you guys about it, just because I thought it was absolutely hilarious... Some people just need to do a little more reading, and a little less making up stuff when they don't know the answer. I realize that the typical customer won't be on their case quite as bad as I was, but still, it's pretty ridiculous/hilarious/unbelievable/extraordinary/etc...

Yeah, he said that the Incredible was officially announced this morning at their meeting to be released on the 29th... But then he said that the 2.1 for the Incredible wasn't going to be anything like the 2.1 for the Eris? Then he said he has the Moto Droid, and suggested I purchase that if I want 2.1, because "it's a lot better than the Eris."

Yeah, I just feel like no one really knows what they are talking about in the stores sometimes... I'd much rather someone just say "I don't know," than just making something up.

And quit worrying about 2.1. If you want it now get the leak, if not just wait. So how much time and gas did you waste on this adventure that you already new the answers to? Hope you enjoyed your day.

Lol, I've had 2.1 for awhile... I may have used 2 gallons of gas ~ 6.24$ It also probably took me 2 hours or so, while I was waiting for my sister to get out of her dance lesson... SO, if you want to use an economic model, I'd say my opportunity cost was around 25$ (I'm using 9$/hour as my opportunity cost for time, ie... the time I could have used working.) I did enjoy my day though, it's not like that's the only thing I did, but thanks for your concern

I am eager for the new goodies that 2.1 has, am kinda disappointed in the battery, and am considering the Incredible, (with the EOL nonsense), but will not start a thread about any of those, mostly cuz I am not a whiner... also, I am a dog person, but I like kittehs! lol. Thanks for clearing that up.
