Hey,

so ever since I guess upgrading to 2.1, my battery life has been awful. Whereas I used to maybe only use 10% battery after the first 5-6 hours of my day, I find myself now down to 60% in that same timespan. The same apps I always run in the background are and everything has remained constant. What could be the issue?

it could be that you never actually quit the application, probably the most common battery problem. what i end up doing too much is just clicking the home key when i'm done using an app but the app is still causing my droid to do all of these evil little things behind the screen. thus i have acquired an advanced task killer. this allows the user to 'kill' all of the preferred apps. that way you can keep that battery from ever going below 80% after 7-8 hours!

I use my phone moderately and am always always charging it. charge over night , charge on my 45 minute car ride to school, charge USB in the school library , and on my ride home as well. It seems that my battery is always close to dying. I use the power control widigt, auto sync always off, background data off, GPS off and location by wireless networks off. I am running BB 7.5. I cannot go more then 10 hours on a full charge, is this normal ? and use TK all the time

TK doesn't help. Go flash to a different ROM. All BB has problems with it constantly downloading the 2.1 update in the background which sucks battery life. Renaming the file isn't enough.

You should really read people's words rather than ignore them...I will say it 1 more time and not again. The reason why your battery life is so bad is because your constantly downloading the same 2.1 update even though your already flashed to 2.1 (via Pete's Bugless Beast). He, along with many other developers, did not completely disable the update feature of the phone and it keeps attempting to either download, or apply, the 2.1 OTA update, but you do not have the otacert (or w/e it's called) file, and will overall drain your battery. I have had the same problem as you, and I changed ROM's to a more updated one and my battery life has been fine. Don't believe me? Go to settings and check for updates. There will be some thing there saying that you should update. So please, I see this thread so much, just change ROMs.

And no, I am not experiencing faltered battery life with 2.1 nor with the ESE53 or ESE81 builds. The reason you have better battery life on 53 was because you were not constantly downloading the OTA update (was not released) or trying to find a nonexistant file (probably was renamed). This all lies in user/developer error.

I have to recharge my battery at least twice a day. I have adopted the attitude to bring my charger with me everywhere I go. I wake up every morning to a flashing almost dead droid everyday if I forget to plug it in for the night after a mid-afternoon full charge :) So 60% at the end of the day sounds great to me rofl.

EDIT: well i see you are now at 30-40 percent which is still much better lol. So wait should I call Verizon and ask for a new battery?

i already fixed this issue by putting otacerts.zip in the right folder and updated, allowing sprecovery to block it so now my phone says "system is currently up to date" but i STILL have bad battery life.

Programs running in background? Wifi off? I can go up to 25-30 hours using my phone lightly, 18-20 hours with moderate use, and 14-16 hours with pretty heavy use (screen on for a good 2-3 hours), playing games, browsing, taking pics, talking, texting.

i havent downloaded any new programs and my phone is like basically in the same state as it was before i upgraded. my battery life was fine before thats why im worried. i never turn on wifi, dont have games on my phone, only occasional texting and some web browsing. my usage hasnt changed from when the way i used it back then and now, so thast why its bugging me.hmm

Might be some type of ROM error. Are you rooted? If your running stock, I don't know what to say. 2.1 uses a bit more battery with the live wallpapers, if enabled anyways.

This is an all time high for me. I have set my brightness all the way down, GPS, WiFi, Sync, location through cell towers, and background data all off. I have my screen timeout set to the lowest setting.

i have the same issue. when i first got my Droid, the battery lasted all day, no problem. I loved it. Lately, however, it only lasts half the day,and i'm not even using it much.

i've read these forums but i don't understand the comments such as:

"...but you do not have the otacert (or w/e it's called) file, and will overall drain your battery. I went to settings and didn't see anything that was saying i should udpate (in what part of settings? applications?)

I also don't know what it means to "change ROMs."

i sure would love some help...
