just want to let everyone know, that you can now debrand your phone.

therefore, you'll get the generic firmware, so if there are any updates available for X10, you'll be able to update it immediately, rather than waiting for your carrier.

it should be noted that it is not yet confirmed that if you debrand your phone, it will also make the phone sim free.

Debrand.

Will debranding it cause me to lose Mediascape or Timescape? I am contemplating buying a Rogers one for use on ATT but willing to wait for an unlocked/unbranded one if I lose either one of those apps...

no, you wont lose timescape and mediascape. debranding is mainly for removing any software crap your carrier has installed in the phone and using the firmware the manufacturer originally installed. also you wont have to wait for your carrier to send you firmware upgrades, which usually take long, you can easily update to the latest firmware as soon as it is released.

Just a note of caution from reading XDA. Someone reported that after debranding Rogers X10a, he could not get some apps from the market. The theory being that the firmware has not been whitelisted by Google.

@Duara: Moxier apps are for used to sync with Microsoft exchange servers. It is helpful if you are working for a company using that system.

Issues from debranding Rogers X10a's eh? I think I'll stay branded for a while until those issues get resolved.

Will debranding get rid of all that moxier stuff? I'm never going to use it and it takes up 4 icons on my app screen, which is quite a lot IMO.

Also, does debranding void the warranty?

I have the X10a Rogers and yes certain apps are no longer there in Market but that was only a few (Sportacular, Tapatalk)

Debranding does not remove Moxier

Hmm... losing Tapatalk would suck, especially since I purchased the pro version.

Sounds like I'm definitely going to hold off on debranding.

hi guys. i successfully debranded my rogers x10a to a generic x10a firmware. but for some reason i cant seem to update it to R1FA016. both ota and sony update software keeps telling me that my phone has the latest software. i was wondering if any1 faced similar issues and if there is a solution to this problem.
i have the latest version of SEUS and PC Companion

I just did it tonight on my X10a Rogers, I had troubles with Google Sync (GMAIL) and Facebook, turned out I forgot to set the APN.

For future reference, and it's been posted somewhere else here, this is the info you need to enter:

Rogers APN Configuration for Android Phones : ~Revo Fora~

For Internet Access/Texting

Name
Rogers
APN
internet.com
Username
wapuser1
Password
wap
MCC
302 (should already be filled in)
MNC
either 720 or 72 depending on your SIM card (should already be filled in)
Leave all other settings blank.

All the other settings should work if you select Rogers as your carrier, this is for internet only.

No, I think the 026 update is only available for X10i, not X10a. There is a way to do it I saw this on another forum, but it looked complicated and it increased the risk of bricking your phone.

As for getting back to Rogers, did you make a backup of the two files before you debranded? I did, if you want them I could send them to you. I assume doing the same steps but replacing the generic firmware by the Rogers firmware would probably work, although I saw one comment that it could not be done.
