Galaxy S2 Jailbreak Problem

Hello all :) I've got just a really general query. I've currently been having problems with my galaxy s2. Recently my s2 hasn't been able to detect a sim card inside so I took it back to the store and the guy told me that the device had been jailbroken and that I have somehow fried my network capabilities or something like that .

I know I have not jailbroken my s2, but I have jailbroken my ipod (i'm familiar with the process), so I'm wondering is it possible for any app from the google store to jailbreak the phone. Ive downloaded several apps from the store such as Apex launher and poweramp (free version) and I'm wondering have any of these apps broken my phone somehow?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know of any apps that will root your phone. I always used ODIN to root my GS2 when I had it and that was the only method I know of.

The apps you mentioned are safe and trusted apps (as long as they came from Google Play).

If you phone is rooted I guess there could be potential damage caused by the phone overheating depending on what was done to the phone (overclock, etc)

Welcome to Android Forums, necc!:)
As the two guides above me have stated, those apps should be safe to use, and can not root your phone. I would take your phone to another store, and speak to someone else about this issue, as I suspect that the customer service rep that you spoke with was just not that knowledgable about what your real issue is.
Let us know when you find out what is causing this, please.

If the Verizon rep really used the term 'jailbroken' for an Android device, then it's a fairly safe bet that (s)he didn't really know what (s)he was talking about. In the Android world the term used is 'root'. I agree with the gents above, go to a different store and/or talk to a different rep. Or you could try calling the nice folks at 611 to see if they can help you over the phone (call from a land line, not your cell phone, it's a sure bet they are going to want to you do a factory reset of the phone).

Thankyou Damewolf13 :) When I took the phone to the store, the guys removed my sim card from the s2 and placed it in another phone to confirm it was working, which it was, then they placed several other sims into the s2 and the s2 would not detect the sim cards, so I'm wondering whether its a hardware or software issue.

The guy reset my phone and went into some menu and he said "Look its been jailbroken" and showed me a screen which said jailbreak on it.
The guy did say that 99% of people with similar problems have downloaded something unaware of its effects, which can alter the phone and that the cost to repair is usually free although my phone has been sent away to samsung for repair.

The only thing I know I have done is put music onto it via Kies and downloaded usb drivers for win 7. It has to be something I have downloaded from google store that has damaged my phone. (Launcher apps or Wifi manager)

Personally I don't think it has been 'rooted' but I have downloaded an app that has messed up my network which renders the phone unable to detect a sim card.

I should mention I am in australia and my model is a gt-19100t.

people pay attention!!! u can not jailbreak a Android device. its called root/rooting. and its not possible to do with a simple app. and there is no way for it to happen "by mistake".

there is no way ur s2 got rooted with out ur knowledge. it is impossible!!!

I agree with the other guy. bring ur phone to a different store and have them check it out. that guy that told u it was jailbreaked has no idea what he's talking about

As it's been said, phones can't be rooted/jailbroken unintentionally. It's too complex to do so otherwise (even the most simple methods require knowingly seeking out the software from outside the Play store and purposely running it).

Either the sales/service rep doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's trying to convince you that this happened and then get you to pay for a repair or replacement. Definitely seek a second opinion.

True, but I doubt that would work in the case of the recent enquiry, which was

I have a lg optimus how can i "jailbreak" it.

For that the best advice is to ask in the relevant All Things Root sub-forum for the actual handset in question.
