Verizon S4 Pre-orders begin 4/25 - Release 5/30 [ UPDATED:release date changed to 5/23 ]

After testing more with a non demo bloated version, I do not see any speed difference between the S4 and my S3 as far as the UI or apps in general. If I had to pick one, the S3 actually seems a tad faster (stock device). In the S4's defense, it had most of the bling turned on and my S3 has no animations on or S voice. That said, you would think a device that is apparently twice as fast or so would compensate for the bling all being on. By "bling", I mean all the stuff turned on by default out of box from At&t.

Not tested emulators yet. As far as CPU, MAMEreloaded with the game Dead or Alive is the litmus, since does not play smooth on any device except "almost, but not quite" on the iPad 4.

The display though is very nice. Not "lose 17GB of current storage in S3" nice, but nice none the less. It is as nice a step up as the S3 to me was last year. Nice. Maybe Verizon will have an apparent change of heart and release a 32GB due to the feedback. Even my local rep buddy says the feedback has been unusually significant for the lack of a 32GB version. Whatever that means.

My question is when will the media be pressing Samsung and the carriers like Verizon about the scandal known as "Install to SD card-gate". It fits all criteria of a scandal, you know.

Added:

I must admit my rep buddy is a tad aloof when I ask him about the sd card BS CSRs are pushing... His response seems more one of calculated indifference.........

Just curious to see where most of you will be pre-ordering. I want to pre-order through cheaper sites like Wirefly, but I'm worried about when I'd actually get the phone (who knows if they will ship it out on the 23rd). I'd prefer to order from Verizon and just pick it up the 23rd, but waiting a couple days for a $70 discount (without having to deal with the rebate) might be worth it.

I always found pre-ordering isn't the fastest way to get the phone. They will ship the day before but the phone usually never arrives until afternoon.

If you want it fast, you go to the store and buy it in the morning.

VZW has been known to ship earlier and sometimes the phones can be received by the customer a couple days before the release date. It happened with both iPhone preorder (4s and 5) and also the S3. I know this because I worked in Verizon retail store and saw people come in up to three days before launch getting their phones set up and contacts transferred. I know, I know a former Verizon retail employee is not the most believable source but take it for what it is. Lol. I don't work there anymore though.

Did not happen with the iPhone 4S or 5. I don't know where you saw that but I followed both releases very closely especially on MacRumors and no one got it early. Not even the reviewers.

Does anyone know if Best Buy will move it's delivery date to match? I pre-ordered from them because of a promotion I signed up for months ago.

They should move their date in too. Best Buy is usually earlier and not later by a few days. I will cancel mine and return the $50 card, since no 32GB.

I honestly do not see a speed improvement over my S3, but do notice the 17.5GB ish less storage than my S3. Nice display though, but not at the cost of so much storage. Games like Blitz Brigade, Asphalt 7, NFSMW, both GTA games and others are played and no desire to juggle those and other games, or start from scratch. Just the specified games are 8GB total, not counting other games and apps.

Heck, even with a 32GB S4 I will be tight, since about 2.5GB less storage than the S3. That will put me at 2GB free. That though is easier to manage than about 15GB less than that with the 16GB.

Jeepers, the Verizon start-up logo animation alone will probably eat 1GB! ;) I kid I hope.

Added: Stores STILL are telling customers they can install apps to the sd card. Consistency.

my preorder status still says 5/30 and i put mine in on the first morning it was available. :( hopefully it will ship early along with the other orders.

turning every thread into a whine fest, huh? :p as long as you don't go the with the "s3 > s4 with all things considered equal" story line i suppose it's you're right to lament incessantly even in threads not about storage. lol

The storage thing is horrible. I can't believe you only get 8GB on the 16GB model! 8GB is good enough for like 5-6 games tops since the files will be 1-2GB each already!

The carriers and Samsung misleading about app installs to the micro sd card is the perpetuating issue. They drew first blood.;):)

I do not think there is much they can do, unless they get rid of all the bling and that would change their marketing push and waste millions $ from the campaign about the features.

Samsung is already playing numbers semantics games. They are touting this as the biggest selling device ever, when in reality the S3 would have done the same thing, but was rolled out in a more staggered launch. Samsung wanted a near global same time launch, so a casualty of that was more Qualcomm chip mix and less 32GB model availability.

Perhaps AT&T principle buyer secured the intial supply of 32GB, so Verizon and others rather than admit this, decided to take advantage of a constrained situation. Price the 16Gb what the 32GB was and maybe never sell the 32GB, depending on sales trend of the 16Gb.

Net result of all of this is a lot of us will probably never see anything beyond what is already available, or known to be releasing: 16GB model.

I can not help but notice though that nobody in the media has called out Samsung and the carriers yet for their misleading customers about installing apps to sd cards. Added: Convenient ingorance or not, it is an apparent "scandal" duping customers in such a broad scope. Most customers are not in the bubble of forums to know any better of what they are being told.
