A novice wants to root....HELP!!!

Hey guys,
I'm Gwen & I just joined. I just got the g1 (1.5 & CRC1)
I'm hearing all this stuff about rooting. My intention is to max out this phone!!! Can anyone tell me.....
1.) What are the benefits of rooting, as in what more will I get out of the phone.
2.) I need REALLY simple instructions on how to do this.
Tonight, I got as far as downloading the 2 files that are needed to root, yet I don't know how to transfer them to my SD card from my PC.
Any help or guidance will be totally appreciated!!! I'm obsessed with this damn phone!
Peace,
Gwen

I dont know what two files you are referrring to or what method you are using to tell you to use those two files ... ???

But there is a guide and file links in my signature for yet another method ... is not simple but not difficult ... as long as you read carefully and follow directions exactly and down load the precise files .... doing otherwise could leave you with a brick ...

We take no responsibility for your failure ... only for success !!!

Check out www.theunlockr.com
There is videos and everything. It makes it too easy. Just click on the mytouch or g1 link on the bottom righthand side of the page.

Just read first.....That way you don't brick your phone. After it is rooted there are roms there, but look for
TMO_OTA_CRCI it is my fav non-hero rom.

Goodluck

Search this on google----> TMO OTA CRC1

:D

Ok i found a billion things on that one now. LOL

BTW noticed with the Tmo update yesterday that its now running 1.6 version. That would be considered the Donut right? Anywho i bookmarked the pages you mentioned. I have a LOT to learn like how to partition the SD card. 8GB card is a lot of room to use for system memory. :p

Down load barcode scanner and linda files explorer from the android market then..

Check out -> How To: Root the MyTouch 3G or G1 in One Click! | The Unlockr

Scan the flashrec QR code right of your computer screen (with the barcode scanner).

then go to -> How To: Load a Custom ROM, Load Hero, and/or Setup Apps2SD onto Your G1 or MyTouch 3G (Best Method) | The Unlockr

follow the steps there, then go to -> Android ROMs | The Unlockr

Chose the right rom for your phone...
the T-Mobile mytouch is the 32b rom...

Hope the gives you a little bit more direction...
