Help Does it has any overheating issues?

I just got my device and got to know it has some overheating problems, i haven't faced yet as its my first day. So if it does how can I get rid of it, and can samsung fix it in updates?

My phone has gotten warm but never so hot that I couldn't hold it up to my face to talk on. That's after using it for streaming NetFlix on WiFi and whatnot.

I never used Netflix even on my older phone, but i think it has some over heating problem while playing games,
i just want to know that is it a software glitch, if so than it can be fixed by an update in future.

The activities that seem to really generate heat in any device are using the screen at high brightness, and using the voice or data radio constantly for a long time and doing so with bad signal only makes it worse. What were you doing when the device started to get hot?

My device hasn't got heat up yet, its my first day i bought it. I'am just asking what are the situations as i have read on many forums that GS4 gets over heated.

Ahh, gotcha. The situations mentioned above are the two most common, but a third can be stressing the device by running many tasks at the same time that require lots of power. Those 3 are all things you can control.

The only other common way a device will become hot is if it is running a bad kernel. This could be the default one that your phone came with or updated to, or one you flashed if running a custom one. If it's an official Samsung one, then your best bet would be downgrade to another compatible one if possible, or wait until an OTA updates/changes it.

It gets very warm while charging and uses the phone but that's normal, otherwise it's fine.

Mine gets pretty warm after playing Dungeon Hunter 4 for a while. I do have glass screen protector and neo hybrid case on so it might not be "breathing" through all that very well. Had one case of the app crashing likely due to heat after an hr of play.

I have tested three S4s from two carriers and all got warmer than the S3 with normal use and a tad hotter than the S3 playing 3D games. All things considered with the tech and fabrication process used for the S4, this makes absolute sense in comparison.

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus was cooking yesterday. I was running nav while looking stuff up the browser. The screen near the top got so hot I couldn't put it against my face to answer a call. I also blew through a full charge in 2.5 hours.

It's why I'm lurking in the S4 thread...might be time! Just hope it doesn't do the same.

Normal for the device, but no doubt though to me it runs at a little higher temp than the S3 for general use. Again, same fabrication of silicon, same size, but faster chipset, higher res display and lighter. How would it not?

The S3 gets real hot too when running GPS and in weak signal areas. The combo of the GPS radio and the radio trying to pull a weak signal is going to get hot. I have noticed no difference in radio quality with the S4 compared to the S3 on VZW network (for my one "whole" hour of use). That said, I did notice the S3 was 1 to 3 dBm better with signal than the S4. Did not get to venture into weak signal areas to test which device would wimp out first, but medium to good signal areas the S3 was a tad better with signal.

I still want the S4, so will cross my fingers a 32 is offered by VZW. Can not help but think though that VZW has one specific finger directed at their customers....

Mine actually gets pretty hot even if I'm only using the phone briefly to surf the web and check a couple of apps. It'll get real hot at the top of the phone on the front and the back.

I didn't think much of it at first since my Samsung Galaxy Nexus did the same. But that phone also got some screen burn on the top and button of the screen, so I turned auto-brightness on with my GS4 in hopes that'll prevent that from happening this time.

It seems most people are only experiencing overheating under heavy use, but I would say mine gets hot within maybe 10 minutes of constant use. Not normal?

I had two S3 (white and blue) and both get/got hot in low signal areas- up to 53 Celsius and usually about 49 to 50 was the peak. Running GPS and using data in weak signal areas was the hottest (the 53).

Not seeing how the S4 can not get hot and I tested three devices (1 At&t and 2 Verizon). All ran warmer than the S3 and the first time I tried I posted a thread asking about it, since was warmer than the S3. Not seeing how it can not be, unless the fabrication process is lower on the 300 chipset, which it is not, plus runs faster clock and gpu.

I think we are into the subjective phase of discussion when the objective evidence suggests it will run warmer/hotter. That said, if the user thinks it is not hot, that is what counts


Added:

One reason it may seem warmer is there is less bezel around the device, so you tend to touch more glass easily, which is warmer..... I am just trying rationalize.

Mine only heats up with heavy Camera and HD game use, haven't used it yet for nav, but wouldn't be suprised if it gets hot there to, my Xperia X10, GS2, and GS3 also got hot when running the same activities, not so hot that I can't touch them but noticeably warm, it seems to be normal, I haven't had OVER heating though.

My GS4 doesn't get as hot as the others with heavy HSPA use though, which is great, it also eats far less battery with HSPA use, the radio seems to be a lot more power effecient, I'm very impressed, had my GS4 almost a month now.

Hey so i recieved my S4 today and i realized that the button to lower the volume seems to be more pushed in then the button to make the volume higher, may i know if this this normal? thanks
