With that said, I'm guessing the gaps that most have aren't anywhere close to the size of the holes in the speaker grills themselves & don't present any more of a risk to foreign material intrusion.
What about foreign material that intruded during manufacturing and is permanently adhered and visible in front of the screen?
Needless to say I'm extremely frustrated
Last year I reluctantly accepted an upgrade Evo 4G LTE with dust under the glass because it had superior color reproduction/representation compared to the replacement handsets offered to me. While this piece of dust may not bother the typical user it has bothered me for a year.
Not too surprisingly, caught in the same catch-22 again a year later.
I have had 4 off contract HTC One handsets in my hands so far (Tele-sales). The first One which I posted about prior had a raised screen and gap in the side above volume rocker that is wide enough to stick the corner of a credit card into it as well as a dust particle glued under the glass, light leak at the top when viewed on angle.
The 3 replacements all have dust particles under the glass obstructing the screen below it - may as well be bad pixels.
Also not too surprisingly, All 4 have had very different color reproduction/representation when compared to eachother. One screen had extremely warm and yellowy whites. Even black/grey menus had a yellow hue that looked very light. One screen was less bright with an extremely cold and bluish tint to the typical white screen in Messaging, and black/grey menus are very dark.
Even things like the capacitive hardware buttons below the screen look different on different handsets. One handset has extremely bright bluish/white lit buttons. One is slightly lighter more subdued blue/white lit buttons. While one has much dimmer cream/white buttons.
From the best I can tell all 4 originated from the same factory.

Not looking for a perfect handset here, just one with a really nice looking screen (good and accurate color representation to my eye) free of dust and defects.
Sprint telesales has been helpful getting replacements to me, except for the terrible shipping quality and extended wait for delivery. They said they can't send anymore. I tried one exchange in a Sprint store and that associate was less than helpful. He did replace it but upon opening the handset the replacement had dust in it just like the one exchanged, which he claimed he could not see and told me I was stuck with that handset and they couldn't help me any further "since they could not go through their entire stock".
Thinking of just getting a full refund for now and trying again later after stock has hopefully rotated, but what if I get stuck with a dim or yellowy screen or another screen with dust in it? Why should I have to feel like I'm playing russian roulette?
