Help HTC one build quality

Sadly, you missed the point, A defect is a defect no matter how you slice it, and it wasn't just the gap, the plastic is warped outwards and is very noticeable, Oh and one more thing a piece of paper is generally between .0035 and .004", so yes, it is wider than a "leaf of paper". You may call me picky, but the fact remains, not one of my last phones, or my wife's last phones, not one of my electronics, many of which were hundreds of dollars less than the One, and even my digital camera which was cheaper, and has a comparable build (metal and plastic attached to each other) did not have gaps like this.

You have been extremely unlucky then, this is the first decent electronic device I have owned that has had anything like this, in fact, many cheap crappy electronic devices I have owned haven't even had this issue. Bottom line is, it's a tactile defect, whether you choose to accept that or not is irrelevant.

light leakage on in my og evo. On my 3D there was also light leakage. On my 3D and EVO lte the backs left openings where it should've been completely closed.

I still haven't seen anyone post a pic who says they don't have a gap.

My latest black HtC One has defects with the power button. By design the One's power button barely protrudes from the chassis. The power button on my One is recessed in the chassis, not even flush. Requires a finger nail to operate. Returning to at&t store first thing this a.m.

Design is great, materials are great. Build quality less than great. Still a wonderful device though make no mistake. The seams on my sample are good enough to not notice. So had the power button been normal it would have been a winner. HTC needs to step up their game on this phone as the design requires greater skill during assembly maybe...

Like I said, you have bad luck with phones, none of my, or my wife's previous phones had issues like that. And we both had "og" evos as our last phones. Sorry, but my quality standards are much too high to accept that such defects are "normal" coming from a manufacturing background, I can't accept that.

Yea the power button is just bad by design! A lot of HTC phones have a severely flush power button, why they keep doing it like this I have no idea?

Anyway how's everything else on the black version, no scuff gate issues like the black iphone 5 I would hope?

They dance on the edge with that powerbutton thing on one hand, if they had it sticking up too far out of the phone, it would be too easy to bump it on something or when you put it in your pocket, which could result in pocket dialing or other unwanted activities, on the other hand, if it was flush, or recessed with the casing on the phone, it would be too hard to press. The power button on my One sits about .01 above the casing of the phone, and with my Trident Aegis case on it, it can be difficult to press. Thankfully, I got used to it (as well as some other odd features of Sense 5.0 such as no menu button) within the first day. It would be unusable if the button was recessed though.

It's actually because there are worse problems to have than the poor fit and finish, the fact that this phone is so new and as such it's a crapshoot to get a perfect phone, and the fact that my phone is perfect in every other way, that I decided to cut my losses and keep my phone with it's warped plastic and gap. However, I still reserve the right to blast HTC for it and other problems, and as you all have read, I have no qualms with doing so. After all, for as much as I like HTC, I understand that in the end, they are more interested in the content of my wallet, than in me, and that's really the case with any company that has something to sell. Sure, some put the consumer higher up on the totem pole than others, but in the end, it's the money they need to survive, not the good will of the consumer.

As for the Black HTC One version, guess what, it's gonna be just as prone to chipping as the silver HTC One. No aluminum surface finish is completely chip, scratch, or dent proof, that's something that nobody can get around. The issue is, it will show up more on the black version than the silver.

No scuff gate yet but awfully early to say. Only had it a couple of days and I'm handling it like a new born. Impressions are that the black on this phone is going to be durable. It just gives confidence the surface texture of One. The black One is the hottest phone ever made. Period. :smokingsomb:

My second black One power button protrudes a little more from the chassis. Not enough really but I tend to prefer a phone that requires deliberate effort to wake and the One sure fits.

Mine has a gap like that but only a tad smaller. No loose feeling though but that's what I fear in the long run that it might creak. I bought mine on the very day that it was officially released here in the Philippines yesterday and I checked the other units sold and they all have that tiny gap. Two customers actually asked for exchange but I didn't bother since the one I got is still rocking solid despite this defect (if it can be considered a defect).

Much has been made of various build/quality issues.

Only you can determine if it is something you're going to be able to accept or not.

As long as it doesn't work loose or vibrate/creak during audio/call use,I wouldn't sweat it,especially if you're using a protective case, then the issue is basically rendered moot.

For them to say the gapless construction is only referring to a part of the phone is lame.
That is, if VZ ever gets the dang phone...

I have to admit, that sounds about as lame as the explanation for omitting an SD CARD slot. ;)

The speaker grills on mine probably do not have the "ZERO GAP" tolerance, but, as someone who used to work in a machine shop & experienced w/keeping tight spec tolerances, I can't see any gaps w/the unaided eye.

With that said, I'm guessing the gaps that most have aren't anywhere close to the size of the holes in the speaker grills themselves & don't present any more of a risk to foreign material intrusion.

If anyone feels anything less than the "ZERO GAP" construction is unacceptable, it's definitely within your right to present your displeasure w/HTC Customer Care & get a ticket started to process a warranty claim.
With HTC's statement on the 'ZERO GAP' parameters, I'm guessing a good measure of perseverance is in order to get a claim processed to your satisfaction.

Good Luck to all who choose to pursue this & please post any claim action involved w/your phone. :)

What about foreign material that intruded during manufacturing and is permanently adhered and visible in front of the screen?

Needless to say I'm extremely frustrated

Last year I reluctantly accepted an upgrade Evo 4G LTE with dust under the glass because it had superior color reproduction/representation compared to the replacement handsets offered to me. While this piece of dust may not bother the typical user it has bothered me for a year.
Not too surprisingly, caught in the same catch-22 again a year later.

I have had 4 off contract HTC One handsets in my hands so far (Tele-sales). The first One which I posted about prior had a raised screen and gap in the side above volume rocker that is wide enough to stick the corner of a credit card into it as well as a dust particle glued under the glass, light leak at the top when viewed on angle.
The 3 replacements all have dust particles under the glass obstructing the screen below it - may as well be bad pixels.
Also not too surprisingly, All 4 have had very different color reproduction/representation when compared to eachother. One screen had extremely warm and yellowy whites. Even black/grey menus had a yellow hue that looked very light. One screen was less bright with an extremely cold and bluish tint to the typical white screen in Messaging, and black/grey menus are very dark.
Even things like the capacitive hardware buttons below the screen look different on different handsets. One handset has extremely bright bluish/white lit buttons. One is slightly lighter more subdued blue/white lit buttons. While one has much dimmer cream/white buttons.

From the best I can tell all 4 originated from the same factory.

Not looking for a perfect handset here, just one with a really nice looking screen (good and accurate color representation to my eye) free of dust and defects.
Sprint telesales has been helpful getting replacements to me, except for the terrible shipping quality and extended wait for delivery. They said they can't send anymore. I tried one exchange in a Sprint store and that associate was less than helpful. He did replace it but upon opening the handset the replacement had dust in it just like the one exchanged, which he claimed he could not see and told me I was stuck with that handset and they couldn't help me any further "since they could not go through their entire stock".
Thinking of just getting a full refund for now and trying again later after stock has hopefully rotated, but what if I get stuck with a dim or yellowy screen or another screen with dust in it? Why should I have to feel like I'm playing russian roulette?

or, perhaps better yet, wait for the rumored GOOGLE EDITION & hopefully it'll be available on SPRINT.

I still don't know if I believe it will be happening. Differing reports out there, classifies it as rumor central to me.
If it is only sold through the Google Play Store, then the chances of seeing a Sprint version is almost zero as there is no known current agreement between Sprint and Google to allow sales of their devices and activation on the closed-up Sprint network.

I was also just thinking/worrying what if waiting means that I end up with a lower quality microphone, from the blown dealing with MicroST. That would really rot.

I feel ya,as it appears there is no satisfactory solution in sight, less a full refund.

What are the odds that you get a 5th handset,if even possible @ this point, that it too will also have screen issues?

Only thing I could think to recommend is that you request a phone call w/whoever is giving the OK on the quality of the next handset that is delivered to you. That way, there is some direct accountability for the quality.

Not sure if HTC would honor such a request, but, given the circumstances,it can't hurt to try.

Much have been talked about the HTC One design and that the phone is a metal unibody which could heat up easily, non removable battery, No Micro SD memory option and all. I have been using the HTC One for almost a week now and I must say I am pretty happy with its performance.

The cell has got enough battery to make it last long for an entire day. Tried and tested! The aesthetics and the built of the phone has been premium. The screen size has been perfect. I feel 4.7" is the ideal screen size. 5" gets too bigger in hands.

Lets talk about what do you feel about the design and aesthetics of the new HTC One. People were complaining about crap Sense5 and no stock Android. Now that the Google Edition of the HTC One has just been launched , what do you guys say, would you buy an HTC One now or stick to Nexus 4/Samsung Galaxy 4.

To start with -

What does it feel like to hold the One in your hand? Does it feel well balanced? Does the curved back allow you to hold it better or

What’s it like to hold and use an all-metal, aluminum bodied phone compared to other phones you’ve had in the past?

Lets discuss...

I cased mine, it makes it easier to hold. Lol
