I've been doing some reading the past couple of days about this device, I'm switching to T-Mobile and getting this device as my first phone with them.. Coming from a line of Motorola and Samsung devices, I have no clue when it comes to HTC devices. That said, I'm looking for the quickest easiest method.

Also, I've always been able to tether with VZW with no problems, I just mainly want to use with my tablet, and I've read T-Mobile moniters stuff like this, would I be ok to use foxfi or even WiFi tether apk to do this with no problems once rooted?

best way to root is to unlock the bootloader via htcdev, then install a recovery, then install superuser files.

if all you need is root access on the stock rom,you can stop there.

if you wish to flash roms, kernels, and mods, its best to become s-off(means literally security off) wich is the best way to be with an htc device.

just holler if you have questions :)

tethering is not something i can personally help you with,as it can be considered stealing a serice your carrier provides.

there are are apps on the market, some work better than others depending on the rom that you are on. you should be able to get it working with no prollem. :)

How do I find out which hboot I am on..?

disable 'fastboot' in settings/power (or settings/apps i forget,on your version of GB)

boot to hboot from powered off by holding vol down and power(holding vol down slightly first)

you can also use the command adb reboot bootloader from a cmd window

i also just realzied i didnt answer your other question.. yes,you can get back to 100% stock s on if you need to. :)

I rooted last night. I'm planning on trying the wire trick later today to turn s-off. Look, I'm having a problem though, I cannot send or receive mms, I don't have signal at home, only wifi, T-Mobile told me that you can't use mms over wifi, is this true or is there some kind of work around?

Well I got it rooted, I was gonna try 'wire trick' but I don't know hardly anything about Linux or Ubuntu so I guess I'm stuck with it locked
i dont have hardly any linux knowledge/eperience either, and i was able to get it to work. this is in the rezound forum, but it may help you,its really not that bad to run it from an ubuntu live cd(the hardest, longest part prolly is making the live cd )

feel free to holler if you have questions, either there,or here. :)
HI can any one help me root my device?
i have tried many ways but no success,
there are some infoss about my phone please help me.

you will not find a root tool that works on newer phones. what you will need to do is manually unlock the bootloader, iinstall a custom recovery, and use that recovery to flash superuser files.

after that, you can use team unlimiteds jpbear tool to turn the radio secure flag off.(make device s off)

post #2 above has the links you need :)

An ruu?
Yeah, im dropping calls like crazy, I never have 3g, its either 4g, 2g or no internet at all. I called tmobile, they said it sounds like something seriously wrong with my device and advised me to tame it into a store

an ruu is htc's official "Rom Updater Utility". it will restore all partitions to factory.

check in settings/about phone for your software build number. well need to find an ruu that matches that. i believe the latest is 1.63.531.2.

download the following:
AndroidFiles RUU

rename it to PG59IMG and put it on your FAT32 formatted sd card. when you boot to hboot, phone should find the file and ask you to update.

before you can install the ruu,you will need to relock the bootloader. put the phone into fastboot, and enter:
fastboot oem lock

in a cmd window.

be aware that relocking, and running the ruu will both wipe your data.

after the ruu install is complete,id recomend doing a "factory reset" from the hboot menu, prior to setting up the phone again.

hope that helps :)

so I have a mytouch 4G slide that has a issue every time I hold down the volume button and power button after removing the battery it does not give me a loading menu in which I can select a fast boot or factory restore it just puts the phone normally I've double checked that the fast food was not enabled in the break your settings but no matter what I do I can not get it to bring up the menu when the phone first starts is there anybody out there who's experienced this problem or can help me?

by holding down the Shift key and pressing power I have been able to get a purple screen but that is all. this phone is not brand new, it is new to me and had undergone a factory restore right before I received it

I have tried up to almost 100 times to get this to work in each time the phone boots normally I have registered with HTC dev and have not been able to get past this boot issue I just cannot get the setting change that I need . Help?

maybe your vol button is malfunctioning? only thing i can think of for entering hboot from powered off,is make sure youre pushing vol down slightly prior to power, and make sure to hold them both until hboot appears.

go ahead with the htcdev unlock guide, wich will get adb, fastboot, and drivers set up. when you enter the command adb reboot bootloader hopefully it takes you to fastboot.

once you are rooted, you can also use an app called "quick boot" to enter bootloader if you continue to have issue with power/vol down.
