Help Battery Not Always Charging (Only After Restarting)

In recent days, I have noticed that when I plug in my charger, (in the house, in the car) my battery is not taking a charge. The only way it will charge is if I restart the phone. Upon rebooting, it charges.

This is not happening every single time (less than 50%), but it doesn't make sense.

Last night, I had my phone off while it was charging. This morning (while still plugged in), the battery was not charging. Over the course of about 15 minutes of use, the power went down to about 94%. Why was it not charging if it was plugged in?

Since you said house and car, I assume you have different cables for each, so that tends to rule that out a little more. A lot of times, cables can be wonky. Just curious though, have you pulled your battery recently? Wondering if that would clear things up a bit. Otherwise, you might be looking at trying a factory reset to test that, and finally, possibly a charging port going bad that you would need to either replace or get replaced under warranty if available.

I've had the same problem twice in the past month or so, using two different chargers and cables, but both are AC chargers. Last time, the battery level was low (maybe 4%) when I plugged it in, but I'm not sure about the previous time. In both cases, it started charging immediately after shutdown, and continued charging after starting back up again.

Depends on a few things. Your carrier, if you're still in contract or eligible for upgrade, or if you want to buy one outright, etc. If you're phone is under warranty, and you aren't eligible for an upgrade yet, then you're likely going to be getting a Nexus replacement. Most of the time, you have to either raise a huge fuss, or have multiple issues back to back to back before they'll switch devices if it's still under a warranty period (unless they're out, then they might as well). But as for what phones to go for, depends on your carrier as to what is available.

(Chicken) I have been told that the usb ports in these things are crap. Oh, and I got the part on ebay, and the seller has sold 440 of them, and this was just one seller. Lots of demand.

440 out of how many millions sold, isn't a sign of lots of demand. Not sure where you heard the USB ports are crap, but they might be slightly more fragile than some other phones. But a lot of it's going to be hit or miss. And with any electronics, any jarring force has potential to knock something out of whack. Usually just the luck of the draw, not always something we can pin point as flaws. As for installing it, it really isn't too complicated, there are a few youtube how-to's out there that are pretty detailed.

I am not knocking the product, but these forums is where I read a lot of people have problem with the usb port. And the 440 is just from one seller about of all the people that sell this stuff. For example, here is the response I got when I posted the issue I was having with my phone:

"probably just jolted the USB port on the phone. They are notoriously weak/flimsy. Once its loose you run into all sorts of situations where it won't charge, will show USB when on AC, won't wake up when plugged in, etc. You can replace it yourself supposedly or pay for a repair if you like to spend money."

I have been reading this forum every day since I got my phone and there are plenty of usb port issues. Maybe other phones have the same issue as well, but I only read about this phone

I dropped the phone about two feet from the ground. I did not even think that it would be an issue. Then that night it did not charge. Coincidence? I think not! (G)

So I have the part, and the guy I was chatting with replaced his today and he gave me a lot of tips. Took him 15 minutes, but said he could do it now in 2 minutes. I will get to it this weekend. I would just have samsung fix it, but they tell me my phone was made to sell in Brazil and I would have to deal with Samsung Brazil if I wanted to get it fixed. It is out of warranty, but I would really be one pissed cowboy if I went to fix it under warranty and they told me tough luck.

I am trying to hold off until the next nexus comes out. The 4 is not so hot. And from what I read, the 4S blows it out of the water, but I don't want a carrier phone. Then they talk about the Google One (S4) coming out this month, and it's going to sell for 6 hundred bucks. But I still have my iPhone 4 at the ready. (G)

I've been having the same issues in the last two or three weeks. My phone is over 15 months old and hardware wise I've had no issues. I mainly us the Samsung ext. battery which I got the first week. Seems a little to coincidental to me. I'm not having any USB issues. My computer recognizes my phone when I hook up. I can even have the battery down below 12% and a message urging me to charge, plug it in and it sometimes still won't charge.

Best Buy is sending me a new battery. Otherwise I can get another refurbished Galaxy Nexus, which I don't want to do. Maybe one day, when they have no supply left, I can get a Galaxy S III.

Try it, it worked for me. Took 5 seconds!

Remember when you plug a dead phone into a charger, it will take about 10 minutes to wake up. So give it time once you plug it in if you phone is dead

When I looked at my port, you could see the tab was not centered.
