Help HTC Desire Screen Issue!

Hi Guys,

I have had my HTC Desire for a week now from the CFW on Orange, they forced me to sign up for 24 months, but after a few minutes with the phone - I had to have it. Its been great so far - except for 2 intermittent issues - it goes crazy every now and then...and the virtual keyboard mugs me off.

I'm using it, browsing through apps in the market, internet pages, photos etc and it will just lose it and take over......scrolls around itself like a nutter, clicks on random things and has itself a jolly old time. I have to reboot the bloody thing and then its back to normal...I'm trying to show it off to people showing them how much better it is compared to an IPHONE 3GS and always buggers up at the wrong time - anyone else had this issue?

I also have some issues with the virtual keybaord (QWERTY) in landscape mode, sometimes the bottom line stops working (spacebar, ctrl, shift etc) - I switch to my drawing app to check that part of the screen and it responds there - no problems.

Otherwise works like a charm. Is it just me or is this an android 2.1 Desire issue???

Thanks peeps'

Not sure if it would help but have you tried calibrating the g-sensor under display settings?

I lol'd. I know I shouldn't, but...

Anyway, yeah, this is a known issue present in the N1 and, it appears, the Desire. The touchscreen calibration sometimes goes... off, usually caused by tilting your phone at a wrong angle and/or palm-wrapping it. You don't have to reboot; simply turning the screen off and turning it back on will fix it.

It is most likely a software issue, fixable by future updates; my N1 had the issue once upon a time, but since rooting, I've found that the issue goes away entirely on some custom ROMs (which use newer kernels and may have better-optimized drivers).

Have tried switching the screen on / off but it still plays me up after, it will eventually sort itself it seems. I've just done a factory reset, been ok so far, but if it plays up between now and 2moro its goin back to cfw! I'm not gettin stuck with a dodgy or half finished phone for 2 years, no chance!

That's the problem with new gadgets they ain't been field tested the companies rely upon users to iron out all the problems for them with the assistance of forum feedback great if you are on a contract you just hand it back for a new one or I wont pay the subs but if you purchase the phone you have a problem nothing will be 100% thats for sure but any software issues need to be sorted ASAP

My Desire is about 2 weeks old and on 3 occassions the screen has started doing it's own thing. Even with me nowhere near the phone !
I have the latest software on it ( 2.2 ) and the HTC technician says that this issue is most likely not software related. We even removed the screen protector thinking that it was the cause and the phone started 'dancing' around within 3 hours !
I have just drafted a 'nice' letter to my service provider indicating my need for a new phone and not a repair job !
