Help batterylife

Just wondering how the battery life on the galaxy is now after the update and ppl have had more experience in it.
Im living in sweden and the phone isnt out here yet.

Was planning on using this phone both on work and off work, and i need to listen to music/radio for the most of the day, 8 hours give or take one,two hours.
How would the galaxy handle that?

well was thinking of webradio, was thinking of getting unlimited data deal from my operator aswell.

So the battery would drain fast then? Guess the best thing i could do then is to download podcasts to the cellphone instead or just carry along a radio (work as a painter and it gets really boring in apartments) even though i wanted a all in one machine.

whats so hard with putting a friggin radio in, the nokia n97 got it all, tho it sux that its not an android.

n97 is also as large as a common house brick and isnt very pocketable also you look like a compete idiot when yo use one because
1. youve spent too much money on a house brick
2. its design looks like something out of blade runner. old school interpretation of something futuristic rather than something nice and modern.

In the terms there's usually a fair usage clause somewhere. Or at the very least a clause that says they reserve the right to limit your bandwidth or usage if it is affecting other users. They also usually have a clause about excessive usage of streaming services.

The fair usage limit is anywhere from 200mb (say O2 standard bolt on) to 3GB (broadband plus on 3G or wnw max on T-Mobile). Thats in the UK anyway.

so u had webradio turned on for 66 hours?
im guessing i misunderstood u completely, feel free to clarify

No, I got 66 hours of my normal usage, which dosn't include
radio streaming at all. My guess is you would get perhaps a few
hours of that at best (certainly less than 14). This is not Galaxy's
fault, 3G chipsets on all smartphones seem to draw a lot of power.

I have a G1, not a i7500, but I do stream a lot. I am in the US and have used 400 or 500 MB a month with no issue.

You can stream through 2G easily. I find that imeem is the smoothest for what I like to listen to it has a good selection. Pandora was a bit wonky. I realize Pandora is only north america.

I do agree with many users and the poster who mentioned podcasts. Put your audio on the device/removable storage instead of over the air, and your battery should last much longer, exact times probably vary. Another idea...if you are painting a room at someone's house, could you plug in the device and charge while you listen on speaker? If so easy to listen all day.

Are you joking with me? Hard to tell in text. If not, I have always been a big fan of the portable non-earphone audio systems. I remember bringing mini speakers on a cruise once to have in room music with my sony walkman. And since have always done that...the speakerphone on my Sidekick was the first chance to have a single device truly replace my portable music and speakers...and the G1 is way, way better.

72hours!! WOW.
I am extremely frustrated with my samsung galaxy as I can hardly make it last 24 hours, and that includes about 8h of Airplane mode (when I sleep).
During those 24 hours I am always obliged to charge it at least two times for about 1h or 2h....

And this is all the while doing all I can to preserve it, i.e.:
-Only 2G activated
-No wifi
-No bluetooth
-No GPS
-Going 15 times a day into taskmanager to kill of extra apps
-Brightness automatically ajusted using light detector

In fact the only thing I have left is the auto-sync cause this is what a bloody smartphone is about isn't it?
I play around 1 hours music a day
I have gmail and google talk running in permanence...

Could you please explain how you get so much out of your battery?

And while I am at it, does anybody know how to get the battery widget to give slighlty more linear values?
I mean, if I ever get my battery charged to 100%, I find that it flies down (you can practicaly see the numbers going down), to something around 80%, then spends most of it's time between 80% and 50%...until it suddenly flies down again to 0%
It is extremely frustrating to not have a correct estimate of battery time left.
That being said I don't think it's linked to the battery widget as the values are clearly the same as those seen in Spare parts application...

And yes I do systematicaly install the latest versions of the firmware:
I currently have I7500XXII5.

In my case I noticed that without data enabled... ie no apn and wifi, the phone tends to last a really long time. Something in the order of 4 days easily from extrapolated data.

Then with the apn on but background and sync off, maybe like 2 days even if there isn't much data transfer.

Leads me to think that either the phone is very efficient at saving power with nothing much enabled or that having data somehow causes a lot more drain...

I noticed that too. I use a toggle apn app from the market. Usefull for when you're out and the battery suddenly shows 40%!

That seems almost exactly the same usage pattern and settings as
mine, except I put the brightness on maximum and left it there.

However:

- I never use the case that came with the phone, or anything else that
would inadvertently touch the buttons. The phone is always either in my bag
(with music playing while I commute) or lying on its back on a desk (while I'm
at home or at work).

- I have excellent signal both at home and at work (line of sight to the base
tower)

- I don't have any software installed that might keep the phone awake. I don't
even need to use Task Killer.

I believe most users who report awful battery time are using some sort of
case for the Galaxy. The next biggest group has some app running in
the background. There are also probably people out there with faulty
batteries.

I agree. Battery is clearly either reporting information wrongly, or
the phone is misrepresenting it. It's hard to know what exactly is
going on though. For example, battery is drained when the phone is
switching between GSM base stations. It's hard for user to know
when this is happening. It can be happening or not happening randomly
while he is standing still and not running anything on the phone.

You could use spare parts and note the voltage of the battery ever hour. That would tell you if its reporting it incorectly or reading it incorectly.
