Hi All

I've been trying to work out how i can change the name of my Galaxy note, as it appears in the router settings when im connected to the net.

I've gone through the setting but can't find a setting to change the device name.

is it possible?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply Stepheninkent

I've had a look but that's not it.

It's the name of the device as it appears in the internet router settings showing whose online when i connect to the web.
The name of the device at the moment is Android with a few numbers, it's that what i'd like to change.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

I've had a look at both suggestions.

@tasteycaramel

I've had a look at "about device" but there's nothing in there that says device name?

@Today

It looks like that is to change the bluetooth name , think I tried that but it was just for bluetooth.

Thanks again for the suggestions. :)

Oh if you are talking about the name that appears in the internet router, I think you probabky can't change that. The internet router should show up as your device model number if I am not wrong.

No it doesn't. It shows as Android-xxxxx... (x's being a list of letters and numbers). This is across all android devices (Galaxy Note 2s, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 10.1 and Asus TF-101).

So it's probably hard coded?

Isn’t it just a matter of clicking on the name within the router settings (192.168.n.n), not as others have suggested on the Note itself?

It probably isn't right but here's what I've found. Settings>wifi >wifi direct>options (far upper right) >rename device? Just trying.

What another user posted (quoted above) did work for me on my Note 8.0 tablet. I had to click a little bit differently though...

Settings
Under Wireless and Network, touch fan next Wi-Fi (so you don't turn off Wi-Fi)
At top bar, touch Wi-Fi Direct
You will now see your device name in the right side (Android-XXXXX....)
Bring up the menu (not really sure what this is called...this is my first android...On mine I touch the menu "button" next to the only real button at the bottom of the tablet just below the device's screen)
Touch Rename device

And there you have it...hope this helps!! :0)
